04/9/2002 11:18 | More generally I am still uneasy about these guys for the reasons in post 5 above, ie yes they seem very very good at talking the talk, so they get lots and lots of buy notes written about them, but I am not so sure about the substance. The paragraph I've copied above is actually an illustration of this. It comes at the end of a long statement giving lots of details of the progress of the business. So why is it necessary to ram down our throats yet again the insight that "Gyrus is a successful international business"? I accept that the above textual observation is in itself quite trivial, but it is the way they do this ALL THE TIME that makes me uneasy. | charlie
04/9/2002 11:12 | There is a disguised p/warning in the penultimate para of today's statement: "Gyrus is a successful international business, but with a specific focus on the important US markets which account for 85% of our sales currently. The foreign exchange translation was $1.44 to the pound sterling in the first half. However, thus far the foreign exchange rate for the second half has been $1.54 to the pound sterling. Based on these levels and future currency movements in the remainder of the second half, there could be some translation effect when reporting in pounds sterling." | charlie
04/9/2002 10:22 | Johnson & Johnson own a considerable chunk of Gyrus and are known for backing Medical Companies with real potential. I'd like to know if Gyrus is starting to make real progress or are still considered "All Talk" Any comments? | 1163

20/7/2002 00:28 | ..........talking of Sleep Apnoea, I used to have a recurring nightmare that I was drowning and couldn't breathe. What could it all mean? Then I discovered that my wife holds my nose to stop me snoring. Oi! Regards, Ian | jeffian

20/7/2002 00:15 | any idae why this great stock has been falling for the last fews weeks again. lots of sells... | bullandbear
18/7/2002 13:26 | I've been short from 214 and adding more on the way down. There just aren't any buyers of the stock as far as the trades show. Not at this level anyway. Only time will tell but barring anything changing these look good to continue to drift south. | rdj20

09/7/2002 21:00 | Recent weeks' comment from the PBB follows. STRONG SELL. charlie - 25 Jun'02 - 11:18 - 5 of 10 edit There is something which makes me nervous about this stock. A year or two ago I shorted it for a specific reason (see old thread). That reason was valid and it made money but the company has now changed considerably through numerous acquisitions (always a risk). But what hasn't changed is lots and lots of gushing PR talk. All the time. Never stops. This morning's announcement a prime example. Gushes on about "continuing to deliver shareholder value." Excuse me, but the company has never made a profit?? Just about cashflow positive in "the latter part of the second quarter"? Meanwhile there are 7 brokers covering it and to a man they all say BUY. Which just shows how good the company is at talking the talk. Makes me nervous. Any insights welcome. charlie - 25 Jun'02 - 11:20 - 6 of 10 edit Apologies to Dr Ceri Morgan at Beeson Gregory who is one of the 7 brokers but is not a man. mjneish - 25 Jun'02 - 16:14 - 7 of 10 From a quick look at the financials, I think I'd have to agree with you, charlie. They're cash flow positive, but that's only because they issued many more shares last year (the number of shares has doubled!). Even though their turnover is growing fast (as you would expect, after making acquisitions), their operating cash flow is becoming more and more negative. When a company has so much goodwill I would at least expect an operating cash inflow before even thinking about buying them. They haven't got so much cash (2% of the shareholders' funds), and on top of that they've increased their debt to around #16 million (nearly #7 million net cash last year), which means that their interest charges will go up - and they're making losses. Could someone tell us the positive side of this? Because I can't see it. charlie - 26 Jun'02 - 18:20 - 8 of 10 edit No volunteers to tell us the positive side? Hmmmm. Time will tell. Thanks mjneish. mjneish - 28 Jun'02 - 04:08 - 9 of 10 Well the question is whether they can become cash flow positive in the immediate future, as they claim they can do. If so, then the shares will obviously start to move up. charlie - 09 Jul'02 - 20:57 - 10 of 10 edit Another day. Another inconsequential piece of PR fluff masquerading as RNS. Another slippage in the share price. SELL. | charlie

24/4/2002 10:18 | The significance of today's announcement from Gyrus shouldn't be missed. At the bottom, the extract below is key to understanding the potential for Gyrus: 'The procedures address in excess of 10 million potential patients representing a potential market size of $1billion. It is an underserved market with only 10% of all patients diagnosed.' For Sleep Apnoea read Snoring and whilst Sleep Apnoea is a indication of potentially serious heart disease it is snoring itself that could be an absolutely massive market. Just imagine the attraction of a 15 minute procedure, done under local anaesthetic (little more than having a tooth filled) that CURES SNORING. How many people snore and how many people are suffering the misery of sleepless nights as a consequence? I can foresee that once long suffering wives and partners become aware of this procedure it will be selling like hot cakes. Secondly, this is a further example of just how quick Gyrus are able to develop and introduce new products. This new unit is an integration of Gyrus and Somnus's devices into a single unit. It is thus the final stage of the integration of Somnus and eradication of the costs associated with manufacturing a separate device. Regards, Maddox | maddox
