Chinese Oil Major Strikes It Big In South China Sea

The listed arm of China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) said on Monday that it had made a significant discovery of oil and natural gas in the eastern part of the South China Sea.

A discovery well at the Huizhou 26-6 discovery in the Pearl River Mouth Basin in the Eastern South China Sea was tested to produce around 2,020 barrels of oil and 15.36 million cubic feet of gas per day.

CNOOC expects the new oilfield to become the first mid-to-large sized condensate oil and gas field in the shallow water area of Pearl River Mouth Basin.

The well was tested at 4,600bpd and was put on stream at 4,000bpd FROM THE BUTMAH.

Due to the lockdown work was stopped and the well was shut in.

THE WELL SECTION IN THE MAIN SAM RESERVOIR HASN'T EVEN BEEN PERFORATED YET.

"The deferral of that activity is the main reason production rates from the field are reduced, with current production at c.36,000 bopd."

Perforation of the main SAM section will be done when we get back to work.

The SAM reservoir which is at the top of the Jurassic contains about two thirds of the reserves.

The project to take production to 55kbpd started less than two years ago and was on schedule to achieve that in Q3, or before the end of August.

I draw your attention to the Pareto conference presentation where they have failed to meet their own timetable due to problems with the field.

The other points you mention have already been explained to you as follows:-

1) - Production is at 36kbpd because Sh-12 was shut down during testing at the point of lockdown.

SH12 is only expected to produce 4K, so that takes them up to 40k ???
As for the testing why don't you go and ask them for the results and come back here and shout it from the rooftops lol.

2) - ESP's were awaiting arrival and fitting of clean up equipment.

The ESP's were put on hold because of concerns with the field by their partners.
I also refer you to the SH12 testing results and the fact they stopped drilling SH13 with only one days drilling to TD ???

3) - PF-2 wells which have not been maintained in 10 years were to be worked over and fitted with ESPs when clean up equipment installed.

Clueless! Some of the wells haven't been drilled for 10 years. Cleaning up some of these wells isn't going to make any difference to the problems they have and there is a reason why that side of the field has been left for so long. I think Stuart is having second thoughts on his 2 wells one pad plan !

All of that is detailed in RNSs, all normal operational stuff and all would have been done if not by now then by the end of August.

The favourite saying lol "the oil is still there" like when Kozel gave 40% of it away for two blocks that we subsequently paid to hand back.

"The oil is still there". 2 years later the company restructured and handed 95% of the ownership of that oil to the bond holder.
