30/12/2016 12:28 | The writing was on the wall when the MNR `refused` or were unable (for number of reasons) to pay the producers properly back in 2014 (payments, back payments and BIR etc)...The MNR/KRG could always rely on the same excuse- blaming IS and the rest of the world for their inability to pay the producers because of their very real fight with IS and having to pay the Peshmerger... Trouble is it has back fired big time now...Because no OilCos are willing to invest anything(more) in Kurdistan now. IMO | nicebut
30/12/2016 12:11 | Saddam did have WMD, and used them frequently against the Iranians The far more murkier question is where did he get them from in the first place | jasperthemonkeygod

30/12/2016 11:42 | Well put Lard TP turned a blind eye to goings on and was happy that Todd took his hands off the tiller for a long time as this gave him more control, hence failed in his duty to shareholders .Not sorting out the Wempens led to a Lawyers massive troughing exercise ,since a similar thing had happened where he worked before there is no excuse . | nestoframpers

30/12/2016 11:21 | Lardner i don't entirely disagree but i do think moral compass is subjective. Do you hate all people who are employees of tobacco companies? Have you ever bought Nike products made from kids in Vietnam or Cambodia? Have you ever used non-recycled toilet paper? Do you blame the employees? The other angle is resources usually are found in pretty opaque emerging regions. Gulf would never have got the PSCs imo if this was completely open and transparent. Wempen introductions, surprise Middle-East financiers. It was dodgy from start to finish. Yet Chevron did the same entering Kurdistan, Exxon, Gazprom... they all have flawed moral compasses. Even the existence of a privatised modern energy industry given the fact Saddam had no WMD in Iraq? Just some perspective. | joseki
30/12/2016 11:04 | For me there are three question marks hanging over TP's time at GKP: - How did he miss that fact that the Excalibur divorce was never properly completed, unlike the split with Etamic? Either Davis or Peart should have picked up on that. - What did he know (or what should he have known) about TK/Gokana? - Why was he so passive about the MNR approach to doing business? That last point applies to all management who have sailed the good ship GKP. It can't take long before any new joiner learns what's what. After that, if they choose to stay on, they are effectively re-calibrating their moral compasses and becoming part of the problem. | lardner23
