22/11/2024 16:37 | Hakan Fidan, Turkey's Foreign Minister, stated: "We have good news regarding the resumption of [KRG] oil exports, and we expect positive developments in this regard. The necessary preparations have been made to reopen the pipeline." Fidan made these remarks before Turkey's parliamentary budget and planning committee while addressing the resumption of oil exports from the Kurdistan Region. He added that "Turkey has made preparations to resume Kurdistan's oil exports to the Ceyhan port." While Turkish sources indicate that the resumption would involve the Kirkuk-Ceyhan pipeline, there remains ambiguity over whether exports will proceed via the KRG-Ceyhan route or the Kirkuk-Ceyhan pipeline. This distinction is politically significant, as the former is controlled by the KRG, while the latter is managed by the Iraqi federal government. The suspension of Kurdistan’s oil exports stems from a ruling by the International Court of Arbitration in Paris, which imposed a $1.5 billion fine on Turkey. The court found Turkey in violation of its agreement with Iraq by using the Iraq-Turkey pipeline to export oil from the Kurdistan Region without Baghdad’s consent. As a result of this decision, Turkey halted the KRG's oil exports to the Ceyhan port on March 25, 2023. At that time, exports amounted to 450,000 barrels per day. The pipeline has remained inactive since then. | theythinkitsallover

22/11/2024 13:08 | Thanks solar. Hopefully decent news either before or at the update. Not too likely I think though. Will be interesting to hear what they say about the 'buyback' and if another buyback can or will be announced. | oilermam
22/11/2024 12:56 | GKP regularly issue an Operational Update in the 3rd week of December. | solarfire73
22/11/2024 12:49 | I agree Highlander. This process will take time and will be extremely complex although it sounds like the most important things have been agreed in principle. I've not ever been involved in negotiating oil contracts but there is nothing too complex to deal with such as intellectual property etc. The noises coming out from all sides (icg, krg, apikur, us, turkey and even the Russians are getting involved) sounds like this will happen in the near term. However, the elephant in the room is the non buyback. What happens after Dec? We will be getting an operational update from gkp in Dec. Does anyone know when this is? Hopefully we will have some clarity before then but I suspect this might drag into Jan/Feb. GLA | oilermam |
