Yes back the horse you think, but GSK getting paid 5.2% for holding.Fair bet I would say. Whoever's wins the prize will be massive.

Monty,

Personally I'm backing Pfizer, or whichever Chinese Pharma co is in the most advanced development stages.

This Coronavirus vaccine will be given every year along with flu vaccine I presume, the prize for the first will be massive. My horse I'm backing GSK, in my opinion over £20 a share, but if not first or no successful vaccine, ok collect 5.2% dividend, so not to bad.

U.S. health officials hope to avoid "twindemic" as flu season approaches

U.S. health authorities, still grappling with COVID-19, are crossing their collective fingers that the upcoming flu season will be very mild. If not, the healthcare system could be severely tested in a "twindemic" scenario.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has ordered an additional 9.3M doses, far beyond its usual purchase of 500K, for uninsured people.

The concern is not confined to America. Global officials are pushing flu shots even before they are available in clinics and doctors' offices.

Influenza shots are rarely broadly mandated in the U.S., but the University of California system has ordered its 230K employees and 280K students to get vaccinated by November 1.

Last year's flu season was considered mild but the viral infection still struck 39M - 56M Americans requiring up to 740K hospitalizations. Deaths totaled 24K - 62K.

Experts believe a record 98M flu shots will be given in the U.S. this year, up ~15% from last year.

"My concern as well....as we head into the autumn, and then winter.."

GtG, well they would say that wouldn’t they, as human beings seriously impacted by Covid 19, but they would also wish to be first with the best possible solution, and so would we as shareholders. I get my pension from GSK as well as being a shareholder so I wish for a rapid solution for this pandemic, but would prefer GSK to be that one company who provides the first and the best solution.

GSK/Sanofi I think the most experienced in vaccines, hopefully first, because vaccine will be a yearly thing not a one off, the dosh would roll in.

Two of the world’s biggest drugs companies have warned that finding a coronavirus vaccine is a marathon and not a sprint and have claimed that they would be “happy” should one of their rivals launch their version first. The heads of the vaccine businesses at GlaxoSmithKline and Sanofi, which are developing a Covid-19 vaccine together, said that “rapid progress” was being made in the battle to treat the disease, but that collaboration and protecting as many people as possible were more important than being first. – The Times

Let's hope GSK/Sanofi first out the gate with a vaccine I think we would go to 2000p,

The consumer products business will not stay independent for long.

Unless the pharma side makes some dramatic progress over the next 24 months,
it may be tempting to sell those and double down on consumer products.
Unilever or RB, two of the likely bidders.

Hopefully pharma will make headway, we have all seen the incredible transformation of Astra, so never say never etc.

What were the reasons given by GSK leadership for the split? They must have considered then that it was a beneficial move. If things have changed since then would they not recognise that? Who knows more about the real facts, GSK Management or GtGlorious?
