Greencore Cakes and Desserts announced last week that 100 jobs may go at its east Hull site. But on Thursday workers were told the figure could rise to 260 or a third of the workforce in the worse case scenario. It comes after the company, which has customers including Morrisons, Sainsbury's and Iceland, lost a £4m contract with a retail giant. 19/1/2010 21:45 | LOL Take it up with NCB! The updates from Greencore's UK peers and the Delhaize food retailer highlight the competitive market environment facing food manufacturers like Greencore. While our forecasts assume that Greencore will grow its convenience food sales in the UK by 2% in the current year and maintain margins at last year's level, the potential for significant outperformance is limited given the demand from retailers for continual strong promotional special offers and the fact that some key agri input costs have begun to increase from their 2008 lows. We remain cautious on the stock. | lbo | |
