16/5/2006 12:50 | Wiganer They suggest they do hold their own bullion, but the fact that they trade the London Gold market suggests to me that they have introduced an element of risk, which I would rather they removed. Just shows that holding the stuff in your hand is the only real way not to be ripped off by city players as share holders are riped off by MM's | hyper al
16/5/2006 12:20 | Worth pondering on Al. I thought they held all their own bullion, so in effect you were buying part of a physical holding. Those who understand GBS better may advise (I don't hold). | wiganer
16/5/2006 12:17 | No sure I like this bit "Unallocated Accounts Most gold traded in the London market is traded and settled in unallocated form. Gold held in this form does not confer on the investor any interest in the underlying gold and the investor only ranks as an unsecured creditor. Unallocated gold may be lent out to third parties. " from | hyper al
16/5/2006 12:02 | Just spoken to my broker. This can be traded in my SIPP. It is quoted in $. | hyper al

06/3/2006 13:17 | All you need to know about GBS LYXOR GOLD BULLION SECURITIES LD (LYXOR GBS) SEC UND ZERO CPN NTS can be found at the links below: -->For Prospectus -->For details on rebranding with Socgen as distributor This product trades like an ETF on LSE, is endorsed by the World Gold Council and is marketed by SocGen, and the "contract" between the investor in the gold-backed notes and the note issuer is subject to the laws of Jersey because the note issuer is incorporated in that jurisdiction. Hope all that helps. A few links in the thread header might be helpful to newcomers. Good luck :-) | code warrior

04/11/2005 12:53 | Anyone found a good way of investing in silver? There was a proposal for a silver ETF on NYSE but it seems to have got blocked or postponed. | gjd
12/10/2005 10:54 | Thanks All is now clear | keene
12/10/2005 10:34 | keene, See my post (54) above. You are buying 1/10 oz gold. Price quoted on market is in US$47.68 (ie 1/10th of spot gold price, circa $477, but you pay in £ which is dependant on current FOREX £/$ - comes out at around £27.44. Current spot price for gold is around £275/oz - therefore 1/10 = £27.5 | chipperfrd
12/10/2005 09:39 | I have just tried to buy , and am being quoted 2744.25p ...Why, can anyone explain? LSE code GBS Broker HL | keene
11/10/2005 18:37 | New highs , which is nice. | mustyair
08/9/2005 01:28 | Belize - the price quoted is in $US but the payment for shares is in £. I just put in an online order through Hargreaves Lansdown in the normal way and was debited in £. I could not trade GBS within an ISA however - I had to use a standard online account. yam114 - as stated above, HL provide dealing services as must many other brokers. I can also trade GBS by cfd on IG Markets although I have not done so. Perhaps you should open another broker account. | chipperfrd
07/9/2005 15:04 | How can I buy these? My broker Imiweb do not deal in them. | yam114
03/9/2005 15:28 | When you buy this stock through the LSE do you have to buy dollars first and then buy the share or do they (your broker) charge you for transfering in and out of dollars as you buy and sell, and if they do how much spread is there on the dollar transaction? | belize1970
20/7/2005 13:48 | IMHO pog is likely to rise from here, plus we are likely to see a fall in the £ if interest rates drop as predicted in August. Both factors could cause GBS to rise in Sterling terms. Of course, the Dollar is highly likely to resume it's downward path at some point - which will complicate things! but I expect pog to rise in that event anyway. | chipperfrd
20/7/2005 12:41 | Looks like a head and shoulders to me. Which way next? | cottlet
05/7/2005 15:51 | Going down fast again. Will it bounce around the 41-42p mark again folks? | peetrader |
