Phil re: 3LEG. Buying now you effectively get the soon to commence drilling programme (2 vertical wells) in for free and then some. They forecast 30p per share cash left at mid 2014.

Just out of interest does anyone else know of any other AIM listed O&G companies that are valued at less than cash?

3Legs Resources. Epic is 3LEG. Shares to buy 26p. Net cash 42p!
Polish shale gas explorer. My biggest holding.

not to sure about the above theory...
i cannot see how gbp would have a better increase in market cap versus trp, if trp strikes oil..
if a gbp farmout is worth 100+ mill, there is skant chance that it will be reflected in its share price at this stage.. just look across the board at similar farmout deals and u will see that such valuations r not happening, in current markets... but instead everywhere u look, everything is valued much more conservatively..
if there is a trp oil strike, it will have tremendous positive momentum on gbp due to being a neighbour... but the real question is, does the geology and related parts actually extend into the gbp ground... that is not mentioned within the above theory of gbp share price benefitting more than trp share price if trp strike oil..

Alex,

Correct and when the value of the company is less than cash in the bank something isn't right.

Just out of interest does anyone else know of any other AIM listed O&G companies that are valued at less than cash?

Its not what assets you have it whats you do with them, GBP have done nothing.

Bam Bam,

It is quite remarkable how well they have done without placing a single share (Hope you touched some wood) but i think we also have to look at the assets the company has..which unfortunately at the moment are not as loved as its peers.

I'm not convinced cashflow from US production/asset sales surpassed the sums invested,
however co-founding FOGL then selling their holding generated some £18 million profits
and a few mil made from Falkland Minerals (now BPC). A lot of those proceeds went into
their flop Uganda venture but still a fair sized sum left on the current balance sheet

And sale of US assets.

One positive is that GBP isn't in the business of issuing shares every few months
In fact haven't done a placing in almost a decade (a record for an AIM oil stock?)
Still living off cash raised through FOGL in which they 50-bagged their investment

yeah...
bpc- wanted to grab that some yrs ago at 5p b4 rise up to 25p... missed it by millimetres :-(( was setting up accounts just to get in but rise started so held back... have been in for almost a yr at current prices..
char-got in a bit early, like trp, but they r not killing me even if they r both some 35% down from my entries... char will have mauritania 3D seismic in Q1 2014 plus nice comments how they will farmout drill to cairn who will have rig passing thru in late 2014 :-)) trp -its all bout that namib drill, for now..
fogl -got in once i saw merger +farmout deal and almost 1yr of flatlining share price etc..
gbp -the share price looks like mimicking trp and its movement will hinge somewhat on trps for now, so no need to get into it based on current situation... i might check out tpet later on in the day..

There was a technical angle to the 4p quote - will post chart this evening.

B6 noticed you were in some of the "fan" favourites - have you not looked at TPET?

BPC, CHAR, FOGL all on my radar for the summer - July is always good time to buy especially if they are drilling 2014 H2 or 2015 H1.

am starting to look at this one a bit more seriously again... due to cash position and no activity... 4p would be a very nice price..
i mean if they actually used the cash or some project talks activity as leverage to actually increase assets, then yeah.. one can see it rising steadily in quick time.. but if its been going lazy for some time now, then cant see y that would change any time soon.. am already watching paint drying on 5 other shares, so might end up missing out on this one, unless it gets joined at the hip with its wanna be trp :-)
