08/11/2018 10:04 | Market report: The City urges Glasenberg to ‘do a Musk’ and take Glencore private Mark Shapland Tuesday 9 October 2018 11:32 0 comments Click to follow The Evening Standard 0 shares Would Glasenberg take Glencore private? Would Glasenberg take Glencore private? ( Simon Dawson/Bloomberg ) Talk about taking companies private is all the rage these days and where Elon Musk and Tesla have failed, Glencore might just succeed. Rumours in the Square Mile are that Glencore boss Ivan Glasenberg is fed up with the miner’s (under) valuation and its never ending rounds of buy-backs. Analysts at Bernstein believe the idea should be taken seriously, adding that Glasenberg has a much stronger hand than Musk, should he pursue the private route. Unlike Tesla, Glencore generates huge cashflows so it would not need to secure extra funding, and 25% of the company is owned by the firm’s senior managers and the Qatar Holding company. Bernstein senior research analyst Paul Gait has done the maths: “Glencore has recently announced a $1 billion (£770 million) share buy-back programme, which would essentially take out 1.7% of the company’s market cap. “Thus, to take the company private, Glencore would have to purchase 10.6 billion of its own shares; which would be valued at $44 billion at recent share prices.” | sarkasm

06/11/2018 15:33 | Good one! What a vicious and disgusting little regime it is, its practice of funding the spread of Wahhabism has inflicted untold suffering on millions of people. Time for the rest of the world to shut the door in its face. We'll survive just fine without them. | nahoon
