LONDON-- GlaxoSmithKline PLC (GSK.LN) Monday announced positive results for its malaria treatment tafenoquine in Phase III testing.

The drug giant said a single dose the treatment, used to prevent relapses of Plasmodium vivax malaria, reduced the risk of relapse in patients significantly more than a placebo when given alongside a 3-day blood-stage chloroquine treatment.

Should be an interesting day today post-election. Sterling will drop (good for GSK) but I suspect overall market will fall too.

London, UK 01 June 2017 - GSK and ViiV Healthcare, the global specialist HIV company majority-owned by GSK, with Pfizer Inc. and Shionogi Limited as shareholders, today announced regulatory submissions to the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for a single-tablet, two-drug regimen of dolutegravir (Tivicay, ViiV Healthcare) and rilpivirine (Edurant, Janssen Sciences Ireland UC) for the maintenance treatment of HIV-1 infection.

The submissions are based on the SWORD studies that included more than one thousand patients who previously achieved viral suppression on a three- or four-drug (integrase inhibitor, non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor, or protease inhibitor-based) antiretroviral regimen. The results of these studies were presented at the 2017 Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections (CROI) in February.

Hi TM

I am long GSK from 14.05 but 17.00ish seems to be resistance and so I will make a few pennies if it falls back. Seems to me that hedging is the best use of spread-betting.

Yes, I shouldn't think this rise will continue unbroken, and there may be a case for selling and returning after a market fall. There's a lot of politics going on at present that could cause a general correction ...... ;0)

grahamite2 FYI David Buick - I first new him as a money broker, however his background was previously that of a discount house bill trader. He has latterly become the "voice" of the City working for Panmure Gordon. Must say I have always had time for both him and his viewpoint hxxps://davidbuik.wordpress.com/

Presumably Buik is an Oxford man. But leaving that little jibe aside, what he says is right in every particular.
