There is a massive opportunity cost to that thinking Michael.

Either way, 20 years of dividends at 5% means you own your holding for £0...... ;0)

The point being made is that you can pick your price on a long term view. Sure it has been 2000, (but 20 years ago). Of course you can make lots of trades on the day-to-day movements, and accumulate a good profit. Its hard work, and there's always the chance that you'll get stuck till the long term movement recovers your money. In that case, there's always the dividend!

BUT, the price WILL move up to 2000 and beyond ... eventually ......;0)

NY, out of interest, why are you so convinced in the Immediate term upside?.

There looks to be nice medium term upside to me, however daily share price direction
is not something I could call.

Just taking a IG index long @ 1546p as didn't want to tie up another £5-10k as a stock purchase.

Great buying opportunity at these prices, imo. Just bought some more and happy to average down on any further drop.

1400's? I don't think so. The company is moving ahead very strongly:

"New product sales of £1.4 billion +72% AER, +52% CER. On track to deliver £6 billion (CER) sales in 2018" .......... ;0)

Support is at 1510p but doubt it will go that low, for sure I will buy more just above that level, given the chance.

Divi is comforting anyway.

Stating below the recent low could spell trouble and short term we could be heading to the low 1500's. It could even end up returning into the 1400's.

NY, I'm guessing you are holding a few by now!.

Michael mentioned how many GSK he holds recently, think it was over 30,000 shares,
nerves of steel, or rich, may be both ).

Now when we compare the intrinsic value of £17.57 to the current share price of £15.99 we see GlaxoSmithKline (LSE:GSK) is a touch undervalued at a 9% discount to what it is available for right now.

This is the CEO on today's Q&A (transcript from Seeking Alpha).

.."just to reiterate, beyond any kind of update on restructuring programs, it's something that Simon and I are discussing a lot and with the leadership team, a much more disciplined focus on general running costs and cash consciousness across the whole company...'

So scope for some margin improvement imv, notice Emma's phrase ... a much more disciplined focus.
