29/8/2002 23:38 | Generics needs the cash flow from a profitable consulting business to fund the VC side, so the fact its not profitable is a severe handicap. Having been in these at one point because available research was positive about this established business, I am surprised by the drop to these levels. Agree with Fast Trader for now but look out for Director share activity | gopher
29/8/2002 20:28 | Wow, talk about share drops, and it didn't even say anything to start the ball rolling. On the bright side, at least a few more people now know of GENs existence and may have formed an opinion on it. One of the reasons its price has got down to these levels was that there was no volume, perhaps on average 1 trade every 3 weeks. If anyone tried to sell the mms would drop the price a huge lump because they knew there was no one there to buy any of them. Below are the trades as i can see them, although its difficult to work out all the buys and sells. Wonder whether the co will take any action tomorrow ie say something, or director buys or... whatever. 17:24:14 9p 255,000 £22,950 DLY O 17:22:19 10p 145,000 £14,500 DLY O 16:33:43 10p 5p 10p 1,000 £100 BUY O 16:24:17 9.5p 6p 10p 10,000 £950 BUY O 16:19:06 10p 6p 10p 10,000 £1,000 BUY O 16:15:44 11p 5p 9p 16,666 £1,833 BUY O 15:52:36 8.5p 5p 9p 2,500 £212 BUY O 15:50:35 9p 5p 9p 11,166 £1,005 BUY O 15:26:35 9p 5p 9p 939 £85 BUY O 14:52:05 9p 5p 9p 8,127 £731 BUY O 14:47:52 9p 5p 9p 8,055 £725 BUY O 14:42:22 9p 5p 9p 5,000 £450 BUY O 14:41:54 9p 5p 9p 5,000 £450 BUY O 14:23:51 9p 5p 9p 2,500 £225 BUY O 14:21:37 9p 5p 9p 7,500 £675 BUY O 13:57:24 9p 5p 9p 5,361 £482 BUY O 13:54:20 9p 5p 9p 2,555 £230 BUY O 13:29:48 9p 5p 9p 2,555 £230 BUY O 13:22:19 7p 200,000 £14,000 DLY O 13:21:44 7p 100,000 £7,000 DLY O 13:15:29 7p 500,000 £35,000 DLY O 12:59:56 8.5p 5p 9p 8,000 £680 BUY O 12:47:57 9p 5p 9p 10,972 £987 BUY O 12:36:24 7p 120,000 £8,400 DLY O 12:25:08 8p 6p 9p 11,400 £912 BUY O 12:13:49 6p 400,000 £24,000 DLY O 12:13:29 6p 400,000 £24,000 DLY O 11:48:30 10p 8p 10p 4,880 £488 BUY O 11:46:55 10p 5,000 £500 M 11:46:44 10p 5,000 £500 M 11:43:10 10.75p 10p 11p 4,000 £430 BUY O 11:00:29 13p 75,000 £9,750 DLY O 10:39:51 12.25p 10p 13p 7,892 £967 BUY O 09:50:15 10p 100,000 £10,000 DLY O 09:39:54 10p 100,000 £10,000 DLY O | rambutan2
29/8/2002 17:13 | No one wants consultancy services in the current market. Also, what are the chances that some of the spinouts are running out of money and finding it difficult to raise more? Hatches may need to be battened down even more for it to pull through. | daisy and rosie
29/8/2002 16:07 | Would like to see directors snapping up more shares | rottcodd
29/8/2002 15:33 | Over a year's cash. No real debts. Lots of room for cost cutting if need to. VC port possibilities. Friends in high places. Overall IMHO, in much the same funding position as a number of tech/bio/tele etc cos out and in a much better position than many. | rambutan2
29/8/2002 13:09 | Are you sure about the not about to go bust part, rambutan? Less than a years cash left at first glance. | stewjames
29/8/2002 13:07 | Never any mkt in this one, has dropped big time on just a few k sell before. This big sell at this time means the mms just dont want to hold. The seller is either a forced one due to other problems or has just got fed up waiting for any buyers to appear and decided to get out at any cost. Spoke to co this morning, as expected didnt say much but they are not about to go bust which price is indicating. As management and Catella own about 60%, they could try and take it private again i suppose. But wouldnt be very popular with rest of shareholders at this silly price. | rambutan2
29/8/2002 11:08 | Quite a dramatic fall, somebody was desperate to get out 200k sold at 8p. Net Assets from last published accounts £37.5m including cash of £18.4m, although cash burn seems to be problem here. Fall looks overdone but how many times has that been said recently! Good luck. | tony14
29/8/2002 10:36 | Following a 41% fall this morning this largely unknown and underresearched Cambridge/Swiss IP company is now at a silly valuation on a mkt cap of just £12m. It is not going bust and while there may be some (big) concerns about cash burn and the large stake of management and Swedish investment company Catella, I think it is well worth running ones eye over. They have a v good web site: also, worth following whats happening at Catella on and stock exchange releases and regional news info During Q4 2005 Generics announced that Nanoscience Inc, an AIM listed company, had completed the acquisition of Generics' portfolio company, Toumaz Ltd. Following the sale, Generics holds approximately 1.88% of the equity in Nanoscience Inc. Nanoscience is held in Generics' balance sheet as at 31 December at a value of #0.4m, the mid-market end of year valuation of Nanoscience. cmr fuel cells (cmf) floated on AIM on 22/12/05 (2.25m share stake): jonwig's thread small stake held (i think?) in nasdaq quoted synaptics: shares in issue is 215.549m. as at y/e 05 there were also 17.5m employee options. 10/4/2002 17:16 | Cheers Games..I remember now.. | mitzis
10/4/2002 17:07 | mitzis......Its was over £300 at the peak....i'll let u work out why ;-) | games
10/4/2002 17:05 | Easy mistake to make, but if u check the last rns from Generics all is explained, though i doubt that will ease the minds of those who sold the large chunks today. Also this one is worth putting on a watch list imo, its just a case of the city understanding them a bit more, till then money may be better placed elsewhere. | games
10/4/2002 16:59 | what a disaster for ol Generics falling from £30 to just 40 odd pence.. it never rains it pours. | mitzis
10/4/2002 16:57 | From Bloomberg: Drug Companies Face U.K. Probe of Antibiotics Pricing London: U.K. police searched offices and homes in England, Scotland and Wales as part of an investigation into prices charged by six companies for medicines supplied to the National Health Service. The police are working with lawyers, financial investigators and forensic computer specialists from the U.K.'s Serious Fraud Office, according to a statement on the U.K.'s Regulatory News Service. There were no arrests, and no charges are close to being filed, the fraud office said. The six pharmaceutical companies involved are Generics UK Ltd., Kent Pharmaceuticals Ltd., Regent-GM Laboratories Ltd., Goldshield Group Plc, Ivax Corp.'s Norton Healthcare Ltd. and Ranbaxy Laboratories Ltd.'s U.K. unit, the fraud office said. ``Yes, it is true that an investigating team is present in our office in London,'' said Paresh Chaudhry, a spokesman for Ranbaxy, in a telephone interview. ``Ranbaxy and its subsidiaries worldwide never break any laws in any country. We have nothing to fear or hide.'' | calleva
23/8/2001 07:41 | Good call, Kayak - thanks, it's great to learn! All you need to do now is explain to me why a director bought 10,000 shares at £2.20 not long before the closed period.... ;-) | obarmoth
22/8/2001 22:13 | Yeah - with the trade being at 2:40pm too - why on earth didn't that affect the price, then, if someone so clearly knew what's coming in the results? I'm intrigued... ;-) | obarmoth
22/8/2001 21:28 | This would've been an excellent short. I can't believe we all missed it. Doh! | torturedsoul
22/8/2001 21:26 | That would explain a lot.... :) Thanks for your reliable help as always! | obarmoth
22/8/2001 21:24 | Obar, I think there's a mistake in the data before May, probably multiplied by 100. | kayak
22/8/2001 21:22 | mmm, I take that back - the recent trading range has been so much lower than the price at the beginning of the year that the slope you've so clearly demonstrated didn't show up at all on the annual chart on the ADVFN quote.... duh.... ;-) Thanks! | obarmoth
22/8/2001 21:04 | well, not quite static... | kayak |
