31/1/2004 15:22 | From Cambridge News, 28 Jan 2003: Spin-out attracts new investment LEADING energy technology venture capital firm, Conduit Ventures, and Carbon Trust Investments have invested in CMR Fuel Cells, a new spin-out from Generics Group at Harston. The cells convert fuel such as hydrogen, methanol, methane, directly into electricity at higher efficiency than internal combustion engines. They also have the potential for higher power storage than lithium-ion batteries. Generics says fuel cells could become the dominant technology for car engines, power stations and the power pack for portable electronics. CMR's aim is to make the cells as small as possible, and a lot cheaper in a bid to overcome current market barriers. The company has its eye on applications such as battery chargers, auxiliary power units, laptops, power tools, robots, generators, and other portable military applications. Conduit says it put its money into CMR after searching for an investment with "game-changing" potential. The new firm is led by Michael Priestnall, previously head of fuel cell consulting at Generics, and Michael Evans, formerly principal researcher at Cambridge University. | maxwellsdemon
29/1/2004 15:47 | well, someone thinks they know something, looking at the trades recently compared to what ive seen most of the time over the last couple of years. but are they right? | rambutan2
29/1/2004 15:36 | snip a few days old mentioning the fuel cell news. The cost and size savings certainly look impressive, i suppose if they're that good gen will make a mint, if not, then it may be a good idea to short sell all fc plays. btw how can call the others competing products? unless the key word here is 'aim' CMR's patented design architecture aims to make fuel cells 10 times smaller and more powerful and up to 80 per cent cheaper than competing products, overcoming the key hurdles delaying mass-market global sales | games
28/1/2004 12:32 | heres one that came good. pity we had to dump the shares... Synaptics (SYNA : NASDAQ : US$19.70) Net Change: 3.50, % Change: 21.60%, Volume: 1,358,900 Looking for a hands-on investment? Synaptics sparked the interest of many investors Friday after saying its December quarter earnings nearly doubled, beating analysts' expectations, with a 42 percent revenue boost that was driven by sales of interface products used in notebook computers. The maker of TouchPad systems that act as a mouse and control the cursor of notebooks, PDAs and MP3 players recently introduced the SpeakerPad, which doubles as both the TouchPad and speaker in a notebook computer. Cooo-eeellll. So where is Synaptics going from here? The company says the March quarter will be in parity with the December quarter sales, and expects "the June quarter to be higher than in March." | rambutan2
23/1/2004 09:41 | We've seen the list before - IP can have questionable value, among consultancies it's a bit like boys peeing up the wall. Real news please. | shirtless dan
23/1/2004 08:07 | Maxwell - very impressive - which will be winners...? | pagey1
22/1/2004 20:05 | pagey1, Thank for the reply. Here is a list of PCT patent applications in which Generics have had an input. Not all the patents are wholly owned by Generics and I believe that GEN roughly owns 50% of the IP contained within this list. 1. (WO 03/103217) BIOMETRIC AUTHENTICATION SYSTEM 2. 22/1/2004 19:57 | rambo - no comment....! | pagey1
22/1/2004 19:30 | well, that would explain the recent up in volume. pagey1, so did your friend tell you to short this one from a quid plus? | rambutan2
22/1/2004 16:10 | maxwell - if what I've heard is true - it is marvellous news, however the source is too close to the company for me to expand on this bb - but has never let me down before....!! | pagey1
22/1/2004 13:59 | pagey1, The last set of final results were published on the 04/03/2003. Is this exceptional item good or bad? | maxwellsdemon
22/1/2004 12:49 | Anyone know when results will be published? - I heard a whisper about an exceptional item to appear.....!! | pagey1
21/1/2004 14:59 | ram, no idea but the uk does appear to be preparing for a change in energy policy. Can't see em opening up the mines again, and the cost of gas imports will more than likely have quite an effect, not too mention the dependability on others. gen prob only a tiny piece though. Anyhow another bit of news today on the gen site, no idea again :( but the gov again appear to have been dipping in. -------------------- The 'whispering gallery' technique - microwave material measurements for the next decade developed by Generics 21 January 2004 | games
20/1/2004 01:22 | interesting stuff games. they certainly have some potential blockbusters on the books, but will they turn them into earners in time? | rambutan2
20/1/2004 00:19 | Anger at tough new CO2 limits So with the gov effectively investing in generics, and wanting a drastic cut in Co2 at the same time it looks like generics have thrown a double six. | games
19/1/2004 23:07 | Ram, I also see a Mr P John Thomas has been helping with the biometric stuff late last yr. | games
19/1/2004 22:53 | ta m, The UK who's who list. btw just had a quick nosey at the criteria laid down by Carbon Trust Investments Limited, and they look resonably tough, so gen could be onto a winner here. | games |
