No problem. I think Gem are in with a very good chance if Paragon don't get it. They have a proven record with the minister and Letseng's proximity to Mothae will offer great synergies.

Hi George, definitely good for gem if they get it though I'm a paragon holder as well so would rather they get it as they need it more. Afraid I'm out and about at the mo so can't post info but will do so when I get home this afternoon.

Should hear any day now from the mining minister as to whether Gem is on the shortlist to get the Mothae mine.

From Petra's trading update yesterday...

Rough diamond prices up ca. 3.5% on a like for like basis in comparison to the average for H1 FY 2016, due to an improvement in rough diamond market conditions.

From today's Times newspaper:-
"The lyrics that Marilyn Monroe made famous could be truer than ever. Diamonds appear to be the best and sometimes even the only friend for some girls.

Sales in the United States rose by 5 per cent last year to $39 billion, representing about 45 per cent of the global total and offsetting weaker demand in the rest of the world, according to an industry report from De Beers.

Stephen Lussier, chief executive of the De Beers Forevermark brand, said that demand was being driven by young single American women buying diamond rings, necklaces and bracelets. “They are getting married later, so there are more young women with a decent income who want to buy jewels for themselves,” he said. “They aren’t waiting around to be given an engagement ring or a gift.”

America helped to offset weaker sales in oil-producing countries such as Russia, Saudi Arabia and Brazil. Demand in the Persian Gulf fell by 3 per cent as consumers reined in spending amid the global slump in oil prices, which has hit the buying of luxury goods in upmarket malls in Riyadh, Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Activity held up well in China, however, despite the slowdown in its economy. Sales rose by 3 per cent, boosted by Chinese buyers visiting Europe, Thailand and Japan. Globally, sales fell from a record $81 billion in 2014 to $79 billion last year.

The relationship between American girls and their best friends is unlikely to end any time soon: De Beers said that the US would be the main driver of growth again this year."

Not saying PDL valuation wrong. . but some catching up of PDL's valuation would seem logical.

The bearish trend of nearly a decade is showing signs of a reversal as good results in recent years (besting those of PDL) have have left Gem diamonds on a deeply discounted valuation when compared to peers.

Who knows..could be the start of something.

UK George - PDL's pe of 18 to GEMD's pe of 5.4 is one hell of premium given that GEMD have consistently been more profitable over last 6 years.

You would think that that gap will narrow at the very least. .

What do I know. . .

I hold both PDL and GEMD, so would like both to rise.

So yes Gemd may have made more money than Pdl in recent years, but pdl's growth profile is far better than gemd.

Also gemd have previous in making catastrophic investments.

So pdl probably deserves a premium to gemd.

I'll be happy when both are trading closer to £2 a share.

They both also hold risk so that's why I have not put all my eggs in one basket.

Both closed at new recent highs today so tomorrow should be good.
