That is why i became cynical / sceptical for many years recalibrate.

From my opinion Hasina was never going to give the goahead as she gave a pre election promise not to mine Phulbari back when she was first elected. Although, the noise coming out did suggest she was going to break that promise. Hence this article.

As we know, she didn’t break that promise.

However, i have felt for the past year that this term would be her last in office so what has she got to lose now. Add to that this elections manifesto promise of mining their own coal. The dire straits they are in financially & energy production wise.

Plus all the positive statements coming out, the ease of raising funds still.

It all points to an imminent goahead to me

Good find that article. Phulbari mine mouth power plant is the only project ready to go so odds on this is one of the plants in the pipeline. Add that to all the mining their own coal statements from the energy department. No brainer mate.

Not long now 😄👍

“ Coal-based mega plants ease load-sheddingToday 11:04
State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid told The Daily Messenger “When we understood that gas is depleting fast, we undertook the coal-based power generation projects. So, during the gas crisis, these projects are contributing as much as we need.”

“Moreover, more coal-based capacity is waiting to generate power. Still, we cannot utilise the Matarbari plant’s full capacity. Some other coal-based plants are in the pipeline that will serve more. Besides, coal is currently cheaper than LNG,” he added.

Thanks for the clarification Silv appreciated and my thoughts are much the same.
Take it from this comment though..

"Do they name Phulbari in the article ? NO

Your assumption that they are talking about phulbari just belongs to you and your imagination"

you misunderstood my original post. I didn't suggest it was about Phulbari merely that Phulbari didn't fit the bill for the green projects the "Parties" in the article were promoting.

From LSE:
“ Awami League's manifesto - Power….

Some on this board have mentioned that they did not know that using own resources, (specifically coal), was in the AL’s Election Manifesto, below is some text taken from articles that reported the manifesto, I hope this helps to clear this point up.

Awami League, has mentioned of exploration and exploitation of domestic coal resources to protect the national interest. It stated that this would be done following the already finalized coal policy. The election pledge committed to launching initiatives toward turning every village self-sufficient in energy under the “My Village, My Town” program.

Coal policy has been formulated giving due priority to national interest. Required priorities will be given to the exploration of coal and other minerals, according to the policy.

In the last three terms, groundbreaking and revolutionary developments have been made in the country's power sector. Uninterrupted and quality power and energy supply are assured, and long-term plans have been adopted to increase power generation capacity to 40,000 MW by 2030 and 60,000 MW by 2041.”

First of all where do you read they are talking about Phulbari in this article ??

Better question might be why would you post an article on the GCM thread that you didn't think should be read as relative to Phulbari and whether it will get acceptance or not?
Did you only read the first line and post it as a ramp?

"Funding several fresh projects, especially for southern belt's uplift, comprehensive development cooperation and financing in the Chinese currency may feature bilateral talks during Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's upcoming China tour.
The high-profile visit, likely in July, is being seen crucial amid economic volatility both at home and abroad and resultant search of alternatives on financial and economic front.

"The forthcoming Hasina-Xi meeting will serve as a crucial platform for announcing transformative initiatives and embarking on new significant projects," says a highly placed official of the finance ministry."

Apologies for being the one to burst your balloon if you did but someone would have read the whole link eventually.

First of all where do you read they are talking about Phulbari in this article ??

Then assuming they are then Let’s see if the local people from phulbari think the same….

Some high level people i know in the country are not sharing the same opinion about coal !

This is not only a decision that will be taken by sheikh Hasina and Nasrul Hamid !!

The international community, the very powerful import lobbyists, the green activists and country Such like India particularly (where Sheikh Hasina will travel next month) will do their utmost to delay An eventual deal even if a project is submitted one day

Future will tell

Still a 50-50 imo

From your link Silv..

"One proposed memorandum of understanding or MoU is related to the promotion of exchange and cooperation in the field of economic- development policy and the other propounds common aspiration of the two countries to promote green and low-carbon development.

The MoU on economic-development policy has focus on 'policy exchange and experience sharing in macro-economy, industrial development, planning and sustainable development and so in conjunction with their respective functions, "so as to serve practical cooperation between the parties'.

"Based on the principles of equality and mutual benefit, the Parties will carry out green and low-carbon development cooperation according to different national circumstances, with the goal of promoting green and low-carbon economic and social development and promote sustainable development," the draft states.

The other MoU, on green development, says, "The Parties reaffirm that the Paris Agreement will be implemented to reflect equality and the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities and respective capabilities."

The parties here promise to take ambitious climate actions based on their respective national circumstances. The parties are willing to carry out policies dialogue and enhance cooperation.

In the to-be deals the two sides encourage enterprises, social organizations and research institutions of both countries to communicate and cooperate in areas of green industries, green and low-carbon technologies."

Doesn't sound like Phulbari unless coal has now become green?
