01/8/2016 19:23 | hxxp://www.daily-sun he government’s intelligent agency expressed fear of any unexpected attack at Barapukuria coalmine area as the people at the zone suffer severe water crisis during dry season due to deplete water level at 10 villages there. The Barapukuria Coal Mine Company Limited (BCMCL) and Barapukuria Thermal Power Plant are at loggerhead over depleting water level and blaming each other over their activities. According to different government sources, people of two villages—Madha “People of some areas of these villages cannot lift water at a depth between 120 feet and 130 feet from the surface,” according to a document obtained by daily sun. Locals of these villages are frustrated due to water crisis, the document said. In 2011, locals urged the authorities of the Barapukuria thermal power plant to install deep tube wells for supplying water to the people of four villages. But the power plant authority replied that they were not responsible for water crisis and they advised the villagers to contract with the authority of Barapururia Coal Mine Company Limited (BCMCL) for installation of deep tube wells. But, BCMCL authorities said the power plant authority is lifting 1000-1500 tonnes of water by using 13-14 deep tube wells for cooling the power plant. “It might be responsible for causing the deplete of water level,” BCMCL authority informed at a recent meeting at the ministry. | mrshaungcm | |
