22/5/2005 09:52 | the following is from today's observer, and i am sure this will have some an impact on ggk. i am a holder of ggk @ 3.55p and 3.24p dyor. Camelot hits the sales jackpot again Nick Mathiason Sunday May 22, 2005 The Observer Camelot, the consortium that runs the National Lottery, will tomorrow announce that it has increased lottery ticket sales for the second successive year - a performance that now makes it officially the most successful lottery in the world. The firm - a consortium of Thales, Cadbury Schweppes, the Post Office and De La Rue - will raise sales from last year's £4.6 billion figure, and announce that interactive sales in the year to 31 March 2005 reached £87.5 million - up more than 600 per cent on last year. It has now turned the tide of bad publicity that rocked it and has won praise for reinvigorating what appeared to be a dull format. Dianne Thompson, Camelot's chief executive, will take much of the credit for the improvement in its fortunes. She may now decide to stay on to fight for a third licence, having hinted previously that she would leave Camelot once she set it on the road to recovery. The company will now be favourite to retain the next licence, which will last for 15 years. The next licence will not start until 2009, but the competition process is already beginning, with rival bidders forming themselves into consortia. Most of the major bookmakers are expected to bid for the lottery, including William Hill and Ladbrokes. Investment banks are also interested in entering the competition, with insiders suggesting UBS is particularly keen. | demark | |
