16/9/2008 07:32 | Sceptre Leisure is setting up pub lottery machines Monday September 15,2008 By Andrew Johnson A company hoping to cash in on the smoking ban with pub lottery machines is moving to Aim. Sceptre Leisure will be formed when the fruit machine-to-pool-tabl No money is being raised during the move and the company is expected to have a market value of nearly £18million when the enlarged group starts trading later this month. Chief executive Ken Turner says Sceptre will be one of the largest gaming machine companies. At the moment, Orb operates 17,000 machines in 6,500 pubs across the UK, including those run by groups such as Mitchells & Butlers and Greene King. Gamingking has 3,000 lottery machines in place but they are largely based in societies and social clubs, such as working men's clubs. Turner believes one opportunity for the company lies in taking the lottery and bingo machines out to pubs, which would benefit from recovering some of the income and cash flow lost to the smoking ban. "Many pubs have a gap where the cigarette machine used to be," he says. "We think they should fill it with a lottery machine." The machines sell tickets for £1 and offer a £5,000 maximum prize. To encourage customers to play, 20p of each ticket is donated to charity. "They include all the major charities - the Poppy Appeal, Help The Aged," says Turner. | ursamajorra | |
