the company wont redistribute the cash through a one-off dividend alone. They'll do it via more 'tax efficient' methods.

Potential share buy back programme, partial special dividend in the interim, with further redistribution planned further ahead for tax efficient purposes.

The big problem with the cash back will be how it will be arranged. If in the form of a dividend then the private investors will be stuffed since they will face up to 40% tax on it. If it was done as a B share issue then that would be better for most given the ability to time it tax wise.

This problem has been seen at IPL where they have their big 60p dividend coming up but its AIM so people are facing a tax problem so Id imagine that many are selling to take the dividend as capital gain rather than income taxable event.

jameel2, if GLA return, say £30 MM, to shareholders then this will reduce the share price!! Believe me.

GLA currently worth around £115 MM and UMN stake worth around £63 MM.

swalker, it will be interesting to see cash back. Surely this will be in the form of a dividend! some would argue that this will hav a negative inpact on the sp! I dont think so!

And another tick.

Slow and steady, slow and steady.

It will be interesting to see what happens when the cash back is decided. I would assume that this will be delayed until they have a better idea of whether or not HMRC will accept the tax write off against the NDM gains. I cant see why not but given Gordon's need of tax revenues, they (HMRC) may try to void the claim?

The only reason I would like to cash up is that we may be nearing the end of the commodity boom.

Quite a bold statement to make, why do you believe this?...

We have had a very tight uptrend since late Jan.

nod, I believe GLA will continue to hold their shares in UMN (up again today) as I think Messrs Slater think the U boom has much further to go. Moly upside is good as well; probably why they took shares in QUA, instead of cash, for IMY.

jameel2 - GLA is an investment company that trades on a discount to NAV - sometimes a significant discount in a very volatile mining sector. GLA always lags its underpinning investments until a price floor is assured.

The only reason I would like to cash up is that we may be nearing the end of the commodity boom. I had understood that messrs Slaters were in this for the short term and to ride the commodity cycle. Excellent foresight and timing on their part. It now looks like a good time to get off the bike.

jameel2 indirectly answered my question there... i forgot the IMY offer was shares in Quadra rather than cash. This means GLA would not be fully cashed up. Pity.

QUA seems to be 83% institutional investors - but I haven't found who they are yet.

Here's the last company results, released in March:

'The takeover proposal is based on InterMoly shareholders receiving one Quadra share for each 36.22 InterMoly shares and InterMoly warrant-holders getting one Quadra share for each 99.23 InterMoly warrants.'

This is great news for GLA too. If the takeover goes through GLA's stake in Quadra will be worth alot more.

Mybe we should all agree that an investment in GLA is an investment in an excellent management team! This is its distinct capability! H_H get back in :-)

I have a non GLA specific question,

I am looking at trading in an ISA for this year, both Shares, ETFs and Units

due to the plethora of different typesout there (and charges), just wondering if anyone has any recommendations....?

(Ps. am a holder of GLA since 8p but staying put)

UMN continues to fly as Uranium prices rose 19% last week.

GLA could sell their stake in UMN very easily in this market. Would that make GLA fully cashed up and ready to return cash at the next results (around 21st March)?

And still the institutions buy at these levels. No doubt there to maximise from the pending redistribution of cash to shareholders and pending investment plans by GLA.

Hi papillon - Glad to see GLA is still doing well for you. Despite selling (and despite a few reservations), I still think this will be a decent investment for the patient, a solid investment.
In my case it was just a case of realising I could probably use my money more effectively alsewhere.

Good luck to you and all GLA holders.
