10/1/2018 19:55 | While Amazon has maintained an early lead in the battle to put a smart virtual assistant in every home, capturing 70% of the market, Google isn’t going down without a fight. The search company has partnered with 15 companies to make new smart speakers and appliances, including four devices that will have built-in screens. Those devices with screens aren’t Android, Google’s mobile operating system, but instead Google Things, the company’s software specifically built for in-home devices. Here are the companies coming out with a Google-powered speaker featuring Assistant: Altec Lansing, Anker Innovations, Bang & Olufsen, Braven, iHome, JBL, Jensen, Lenovo, LG, Klipsch, Knit Audio, Memorex, RIVA Audio, SōLIS, and Sony. Altec Lansing launched three new speakers integrated with Google Assistant. Google is trying to push Assistant into other devices in the home as well. LG’s new TVs will have Google Assistant inside, and GE has built a way to ask either Alexa or Google Assistant to preheat an oven or turn on the dishwasher. Talk to your LG TV. Talk to your LG TV. Adoption of these smart speakers is still relatively low, but tech companies like Amazon, Google, Microsoft and Apple are betting these voice-first devices are the next major platform, like smartphones or desktop computers. And while products sales are nice, these devices give companies access to a trove of user data in the form of every command a user asks of their device. This will be invaluable as they develop future AI products, which are commonly thought to perform better when they have access to more data. hxxp://www.frontier- 500p coming | tjbird

10/1/2018 18:17 | I've been feeling increasingly optimistic for the last year or so. Up until the last few days the market hasn't factored anything for the Smart Audio division. In 3 years time this should dwarf the DAB side. FST expect to have over 50% market share in the Smart Audio market. All extra sales will fall to the bottom line now they are cashflow positive. With a fair wind we could see £5+ in 2019. | chillpill

10/1/2018 16:05 | Ashehzi, there was a 40:1 share consolidation in Nov 16. As for the shares taking a breather, I doubt it. Longtermers like me have been waiting for this moment and, as Rob said, the prospects for voice devices is looking very strong. Also, DAB is looking good with Italy and France going for all radios containing digital by circa 2020 and Switzerland switching off their analogue signal then. It does not hurt either that the champion for DAB in the UK govt has been promoted to run the whole digital dept this week. My guess is that the UK may copy France and Italy when we reach 50% digital listeners, probably this year, and force all manufacturers to include DAB as standard by 2020, as a precursor to switching off the analogue spectrum (IMO). | life of crime

10/1/2018 14:12 | Just when you thought it couldn't get better At CES 2018, PC makers targeting on-the-go professionals with thin, Alexa, LTE Two-in-one devices dominate at CES 2018 as laptops go thin and hop on the Amazon Alexa bandwagon. Among the key themes: Alexa is being built into PCs According to a report by Forrester Research, there were over one billion PCs in use worldwide by the end of 2008. And with PC adoption in emerging markets growing fast, it is estimated that there will be more than two billion PCs in use by 2015, Forrester predicts. How many PCs sold a year? | albanyvillas
