We'll wait and see. If they do go down I'll be the 1st to hold my hands up. I've left plenty of room to average down and buy a lump if needed . Good luck to both bull and bears.Pleasant evening .

Nortic - to the City? Try not to. Have one or two "reunion" days with a few people, strangely enough none from JC, but a couple of folk from SG Warburg, whom I worked for before I left to go to Capel's.

That aside, I detest London, which is sad as being a Londoner I should be loyal, but I hate the place now. Not the London I knew and grew up in.

Better not elaborate on that - you know what the thought police are like!

For the life of me, I can't remember the name of the guy who took me on at JC. He owned a vast stable of Persian racehorses and we had the Aga Khan and HM The Queen as our private clients.

They were a very generous outfit. I remember in 1987 having a short holiday with my then lady friend in Jersey. We were there a week or so. I was invited to spend a day at the Jersey office, which I thoroughly enjoyed, was treated to a tour, a lunch and both of us to hospitality in the evening with dinner and wine.

On my return to the London office the following Monday I was called down to see my superior who then presented me with a cheque which represented the cost of 1/7th of my holiday including the air fare.

Their reckoning was that I'd spent a day of my hols at "work". It was nothing of the sort, but a gesture very much appreciated.

Alas, loyalty doesn't run deep these days, but then again there probably isn't a company on the planet now run by decent people that ran James Capel.

RIP JC.

Peter Quinnen was our chairman at JC. A lovely and humble man. Widely respected in the City, and very fair to all of the people there.

Sadly, he passed away years after I left. I was shocked to hear the news.

Not many in the City earned the respect he had.

Me neither Nortic, so let's call it quits.

Some very powerful people at JC years ago.

Good days, all ended really in 1987 with the big crash. I left there in 1993, redundant after all those years, but happy days.

Place was bombed in 1992 thanks to the IRA. I ended up under my desk. Thought it was one of the traders having eaten too many beans.

Pinchen Denny of course. One of the better jobbers in the world of finance.

And it was Pinchin not Pinchen. Sorry to pull you up on that and appearing pedantic but that was the spelling.

Akroyd and Smithers to you.
