The only real question with regards the CEO for me is:

'Why after 20+ months has the CEO not made any noticeable positive difference to either the Financial performance or the profile of the Company?'

"it's patented and company policy is not to disclose any details other than those in the public domain already"

like it:

1 keeps an air of mystery about it
2 don't need to expose your own ignorance :-)

Unless you have something which can be proofed against copying or imitation by patent or copyright then IM is right in saying nothing technical especially as there are still countries that for the most part do not recognise intellectual property. Stick to "it's patented and company policy is not to disclose any details other than those in the public domain already"

PS I notice that Vic Steel has come up on the list of employees again on LinkedIn. Very old news or new news?

Well said.

Bottom line is that Ian is our CEO and he is an investor.

i would assume that, if pressed, IM has a more in depth understanding than "it's magic"

let's move on....

It would be impressive if the CEO could explain the intricacies of the codec but not imo necessary.
Boffins CEOs are generally not trusted to run businesses well, so it's a bit of a double-edged sword.

Agree, as said if the CEO is the guy to be the face of FBT for interviews etc than a working knowledge of the tech (and confidence in communicating it) is essential. If he has not got that use another member of staff.

I don't expect Ian to be an expert, I do expect him to have some level of understanding. Calling it magic is not good enough for a ceo.

Industry knowledge about Codecs is about which Codec to use for different workflows the advantages and trade off’s that each Codec has.

Quality V data rate, long-gop V intra frame etc etc.

99% of sales guys could only tell you very basic stuff about a Codec

Very unrealistic to expect Ian to be a Codec expert.

Ian has done a lot of structural transformation at a business level but now we need to find out if he can close big deals so far that has been disappointing, what we don’t know is if we have a quality pipeline of interest.

Just listened to the interview. At the level Ian is working he has to set some boundaries re getting drawn into technicals or risk a hiding to nothing. It was right to sidestep the GOP question, he can't go head to head with the editor of codec weekly.

I'd echo mcsean's comments in so far we can expect to have to field codec questions if we want to wear the codec vendor credentials. But so long as stick to features that can be related to the Blackbird platform it should be possible to steer clear of controversy / trouble whilst still providing a coherent response. He did that with the point about efficiency. Another one would be frame accuracy as this directly supports accurate edit decisions in the lightweight clipping tool and full blown editors.

"...tell me why is Blackbird a better codec?"

Sounds like a good question for the AGM also :-)

Astonishing valuation for Zoom!

Just shows how much investment money is around in the Video tech space at the moment.

I have never met a senior sales executive in the video industry who knew how it all worked technically.

They pass that on to the tech guys.

The whole point of Cloud is to the end user it all works by magic no technical knowledge required.

The how it works description it’s magic is an over used term in this industry.

Magisto Video Editing just got bought for $200

Ian comes from the creative media industry hence the language which seems normal to me.

As I said, it's in the magic of the codec because this codec was designed by my business partner in the company from the ground up to work in the cloud. Now, if you want me to go deep into the code, you are with the wrong person but I would love to at some point chat out with you but it's to be seen to believe. It is high-quality.

IM must've been at the trump school of business...

Don’t believe a word of this magic circle malarkey. Otherwise, they would have made bonio disappear a long time ago!!

Interesting fun thought, for me it would have to be...

Doris the office cleaner for all the inside information.

She tells me that many of the staff are members of the Magic Circle on a daily basis pulling rabbits out of a hat, making Blackbirds appear from thin air and one day she tells me they even sawed an investor chap in half can you imagine!
Now that’s magic she says.

Bit of Easter fun:

Who is your all time fav FBT employee

1) Vic Steel - legendary former Chairman. Iconic appearance in the very first ever FBT web demo video. Quietly tipped to return to bring FBT back to the glory days.

2) Jens Wikholm - originator of the Cowboy Boot Friday concept. Brought the 80s hair metal look to FBT along with key deals such as Rich Energy and Movember.

3) Stephen Streater - genius inventor and delusional buffoon/visionary. Incessant visions of jam tomorrow have inspired generations of investors.

Enjoy!

I’m going with 3) by the way

Needless to say I've been invested here a while (3-4 years?) The tech is great, fear I will die of old age before any of "this will take off next year, guaranteed" will materialize. Aside of Rich Energy, the usual renewals + South Africa (anybody else been around here long enoug to remember this?) student editing suite we've been flat. My all time low was 3.75p but I can't remember if that was the exact figure. Still won't sell, that ship sailed years ago. hxxps://www.forbidden.co.uk/2016/12/01/atos-in-south-africa-moving-to-next-stage/
