Hopefully we will hear something about the Filtronic payload equipment very soon.
Fingers crossed
Cheers |
Starlink is already a bit stretched in places, capacity/speed etc.https://uk.pcmag.com/networking/154779/should-starlink-publicly-disclose-its-total-network-capacity-spacex-says-noMy take is that upgrading ground station hardware was a quick fix to address this short term while figuring out how to beef up the satellite side of things. Ftc are already market leaders in high speed, high frequency, high power, low latency stuff. Bright outlook for ftc.. |
I presume this would be a positive for Filtronic. |
Trump in, nearly but certAIN IMO. |
Any regulatory obstacles to Starlink will now be removed, with obvious benefits to Filtronic. |
Trump mentioned Starlink |
A flurry of buys first thing this morning. Has it been mentioned somewhere ? |

Thanks very much for that. |
I'm fairly sure that the payload stuff is with Space X, when will we hear more, who knows? |

look at the end of the following RNS re payload tech:
06 February 2024 Filtronic plc ("Filtronic")
New Contract Award
Filtronic secures a £7.8 million follow-on production order and a payload development contract in the LEO space market.
Filtronic plc (AIM: FTC), the designer and manufacturer of products for the aerospace, defence, space and telecoms infrastructure markets, is pleased to announce two significant contract wins with a leading global provider of low earth orbit ("LEO") satellite communications equipment.
The production order contract, valued at $9.9m (£7.8m), with revenue expected to be recognised within calendar year 2024, is for additional demand of Filtronic's innovative Cerus32 solid state power amplifier ("SSPA") module. This is the third and largest production order to date for the Cerus32 SSPA and it represents increased customer confidence in Filtronic technology following initial field deployment. The SSPA modules will be installed in ground station locations as part of the customer's earth station antenna network which provides full E-band connectivity to the growing number of E-band enabled LEO satellites.
The Cerus32 SSPA utilises Filtronic's unique MMIC chip design and proprietary power combining techniques to provide a small form factor amplifier module with scalable output powers ranging from 4W to over 20W at E-band frequencies. Rapid deployment of modules in the field has enabled the customer to maintain a high-level of low latency network performance for a fast-growing subscriber base.
The second contract with the same customer is a development agreement to accelerate the design and prototype delivery of an E-band module that would form part of the satellite payload and provide downlink connectivity to the E-band ground station. Subject to successful qualification testing and field trials this module will represent the first Filtronic product designed for space flight and is key part of our strategy to address the satellite element of the LEO space market. |
eyeofthetiger ,
An explanation if you please as you seem to have got the technology. Please explain the opportunity in satellites with SpaceEx. I understand FTC's components are being used in all the base stations but I heard the real opportunity is the 10fold of satellites linked to those base stations. If that is the case, are FTC in trials with SpaceEx for this and when are you expecting news on whether they have been successful.
TIA. |
I was extremely surprised to see the mention of imminent contract announcements in the RNS this morning. It will be interesting to see who the new contract/s land with.
The Board must be very close to being certain of the contracts being finalised.
Intriguing and exciting too!
We also have Mello next month so I wonder if we will be ‘off to the races’ again quite soon?
Great fun! |
Yes I know, buy why are trades delayed...? |
But all those trades were done earlier in the day beeezzz, they were reported late , but if you check the times you can deduce whether they were sales or purchases. |
Good volume today, few large trades after U/C trade. |

Added after selling my MKS. Potential can't be ignored. |
When Starlink falls in price, which it inevitably will and their services are competitive with Virgin Media, BT etc, then hands down EVERYONE will choose Starlink.
"Pricing can be a toss-up between all three satellite providers depending on the ISP or plan you choose and the route you go with the equipment. Starlink holds the advantage in basically every other category, including max speeds, latency, data allowances and contract requirements."
There is no comparison as Starlink is an always on connection and essentially has DUAL WAN failover.
Lets say you move home - you just pick your gear and plug and play again and again. This just allows for internet to deployed ANYWHERE you have power. |
Ive been monitoring the website. It does say there is a congestion charge which is vague - does it mean there isnt much capacity or that demand is outstripping supply? I get 150mps easily for £20 a month now and there's one cable and no satellite box. No doubt all options will be cheaper over time. |
![](https://images.advfn.com/static/default-user.png) I agree. The market appears to be more focused on the fact that H1 is more than likely to be be stronger than H2.
It would appear, based on the market's initial reaction this morning, that the market (and presumably FTC) believes that even if the "advanced discussions" lead to new contract wins they are unlikely to now materially impact H2, as we've only got seven months left of the current financial year. There is also the possibility, new production capacity aside, that H1 results in FY26 might only, at best, flatline in comparison to FY25 unless there are some material new orders to replace the SpaceX retrofit work.
Nevertheless, IMHO the addition of two new production lines in the space of just five months suggests that FTC is confident that some (or all) of these "advanced discussions" will lead to some material new contracts in the near future.
I think it would be good if FTC could lessen its current reliance on SpaceX orders and broaden its key customer base. FTC needs material new orders from customers other than SpaceX to protect itself against the possibility that further orders from SpaceX might be impacted by future events outside its current control.
It's never good business practise to make your business overly reliant on just one customer for longer than is absolutely necessary. SpaceX has opened the door; now FTC needs to leverage the great opportunity SpaceX has given them to onboard new customer contracts of commensurate size to futureproof its business (and also drive future growth). Historically, lead times on discussions turning into contacts has sometimes taken years (or more). Hopefully horizons are narrowing and years have now become months (at worse). |
74tom is right, but having retrofitted the network is it likely that's the end of it? As the volume of communication and the size of the network continues to grow, isn't retrofitting likely to become a never ending process of upgrading? And if FTC are the best at this (and why would starlink use us if we weren't) won't competitors want to use our products as well? And then remember this just one business line and defence is also booming. Having said that, absolutely we want more clients. A couple of years ago we were announcing wins for £200k. Now the threshold is much higher, but clearly capacity is expanding and more clients are onboarding. But again, that's a long process. So saying we will get more client news soon is a huge positive |
Stonking set of results in every sector. |
Small punters getting taken for a ride this morning chasing their tails now |
