06/11/2012 16:55 | Well I was misinforming myself as it is fairly easy to determine what The Camber is ( being the peninsula facing Stanley harbour and the left hand, ie eastern side of the narrows through which all shipping into Stanley harbour has to navigate). Navy Point appears to be the western end of this peninsula. FIH own a cross section of The Camber peninsula and so have access to both the north and south coasts of this peninsula. So they own land 'north of the camber' but only just because Port William includes several bays and inlets further north of this point. However the further north of the Camber one goes, the further away from Stanley one is. Some of these areas were seeded with mines during the Falklands War and I am unclear if these were all demined. I understand that these were plastic mines and not the easiest to locate and deal. However, locating the new part away from Stanley may change the value of some of FIH properties nearer to Stanley. So in the absence of further information about the new port location, it is difficult to understand if this increases FIH property or not. Any thoughts ?? | ![]() housemartin2
03/11/2012 18:08 | ' Press extracts ' Falkland islanders asked to send message to Argentina over sovereignty The Falkland Islands has set the question to be voted on in a planned referendum next year on the future sovereignty of their South Atlantic homeland. ... It will be the first referendum held on the islands, but in a poll in the mid-1980s, 94.5% of those who took part supported staying British. Following the public consultation period – with comments from the public to be received no later than the evening of Friday November 16 – the question will be formally adopted by Executive Council on November 21. | ![]() togglebrush
31/10/2012 15:38 | Yes Port William is a big area. It seems that the FIG have decided upon an area not upon a place. They say 'north of the Camber' which I had assumed was a watercourse or a geographical feature but I cannot find it on any FI maps to which I have had access. Dpending whereabouts in Port William, it could be quite a distance from Stanley. Can anyone give better specifics ? | ![]() housemartin2

27/10/2012 11:02 | Port William is the name of the large bay which lies to the northeast of Stanley and forms the outer approaches to Stanley Harbour. It is open to the east, but provides good shelter from the prevailing westerlies. Presently there are no significant facilities there. Bigend | ![]() bigend
27/10/2012 07:42 | According to my map, Port William is a name applied to a largish harbour inlet, not a specific town. Therefore, is FKL's Navy Point (see recent capital raising presentation) just one of several possible locations? Or have I got that wrong? | ![]() whackford
26/10/2012 15:12 | Ifthecapfits. Re Port William deepwater port, I think that I have seen some reference to a preferred contractor for this major project on the FIG website some time ago when there was discussion around a new port or extending the floating jetty. It was not Trant but I am sure that there will be some input from SACC. Just supplying the services to the imported labour force to build the thing must provide some dosh for FIH. (I would assume that the main contractor would build its own 'village') This is just type of development I expected and why I invested in this company a while ago. Much more to come ! | ![]() housemartin2
