ToysRUs are very optimistic about PJ Masks merchandise in the USA:

"At Toys “R” Us, back-to-school is a good warm-up for its most important season, the holidays, and also an early indicator of which licensed toy characters will be holiday hits.

This year, merchandise such as backpacks and lunchboxes related to the animated PJ Masks television series on the Disney channel looks like a top back-to-school seller, said Jamie Uidtenhowen. vice president and general merchandising manager at Toys “R” Us. “Every year at this time we get great reads off of the licenses for fall, and we’re really optimistic with what we’re seeing from that property,” he said."

Yep really big volume day today - very encouraging indeed - reality is shares are only 10% up on where they were trading before the bid was even announced

Busy closing auction by the look of it. Nice to see a little pop in the price.

Great volume today which is encouraging - wondering that pretty soon all the buyers above this level will have been washed out and the share can start to perform into the AGM and results day

Wonder if topping up and holding over the week end might be a good move incase an increased bid from itv or who ever pops up Monday I'm trying to buy 5000 shares and they are quoting nearly 2 pence over the level 2 price !

I did exactly the same tini5 and doubled up large in ETO under 210. However couple of days later sold banks a little early and went back to ITV as well.

One might not have the cash generation we all wish to see in ETO yet, but the organic growth in production is way superior to ITV and the valuation much cheaper, with none of the advertising hoo-haa.

ITV must know it will be practically impossible for them to buy another asset like Mark Gordon with pretty much the top 5 shows on US networks - Criminal Minds, Beyond Borders, Grey;s Anatomy, Quantico and Ray Donovan. Soon to be joined by Designated Survivor which feels like it will be a big hit.

For that reason I still can't help feeling that the story is still not over with ITV, This is too good an asset to lose. Whether they come back or buy the bits they want from someone else I don't know ...

I sold my ITV holding to increase my ETO position. Long term prospects are fantastic when you take into account the potential returns from growth in China.

It was clear from the last results presentation that management were at pains to point out the emphasis on organic rather than acquisition led growth, and are fully cognisant of the market's desire to see some free cashflow. Don't really have a feel for the timing of that but I am sure it will come through.

And this time round I think the library valuation will help. Previously they didn't really have the earnings in television to support that, but thats changing. No idea how they will treat Mark Gordon - will they include 50% of its library or exclude it from calcs entirely - if the former it could have a big influence on the number ...

The library valuation has never figured in the valuation of the business as it was in theory worth considerably more than the market cap of the business when the share price tanked to 130p.
The biggest criticism of the business has been the poor cash flow and that is where I expect to see major improvements over the next year or so, I still think that a dual listing will be necessary to get a re-rating of the stock but happy to be proven wrong!

It just looks business as usual salpara111 - think one just has to disregard whether someone wants to bid or not and just look at the business fundamentals which would seem excellent. The company is growing like a weed, and much of that growth will be organic rather than acquired.

Valuation is cheap, in fact 10% cheaper than ITV themselves on current market estimates, albeit in ETO's case there is upside risk making it even cheaper, and given their investment programme, their production side should be continuing to grow on a 20% trajectory - ITV Studios meanwhile at 2% organically.

But it will just take time and execution for the market to appreciate the value, but I have no doubt it will get there in the end.

AGM and Special Meeting all looks uncontroversial. At some stage, possibly then we might also get the updated library valuation which should also lend support to the stock price

So what happens now?
I get the impression that KKR are not going to bid.
My question is why have they called a "special meeting" alongside the AGM.
For me the best scenario is for them to remain independent but to seek a dual listing in the USA as that would lift the share price closer to 300 without a bid and we can still benefit from the growth of Peppa and the better cash flow that should be seen over the next 1-2 years.

Agree, this is a quality board due to posters such as Rivaldo etc. It's appreciated so thank you & please keep it up.

On a different note I'm still trying to get Selftrade to process an NR301 form, they say they don't recognise it - duh !

I could move my holding to another broker such as TDW but it is not that large so not worth it yet but it could be when the div. becomes significant. I'd like to compile a list of brokers that will process the NR301, so if you are successfully getting the witholding tax reduced I'd be grateful to know who you are with.

Thanks.
D.

I wouldn't normally post details of internal appointments, but this one strikes me as extremely impressive - ETO's new Head of Asia used to be Head of Licensing at Hasbro....

"Dorothy Chan joins eOne as new head of Asia
By Jade Burke
September 1st 2016 at 10:25AM

Entertainment One (eOne) has appointed its new head of Asia for eOne Family and eOne Licensing, in the form of Dorothy Chan.

In her new position, Chan will help to drive new and existing business for eOne’s portfolio of brands, including the likes of Peppa Pig, Ben & Holly’s Little Kingdom and PJ Masks.

She will also be responsible for overseeing TV and digital sales, licensing and co-ordination of marketing programs in the region...

....“As Peppa Pig continues to grow in popularity and we look to launch our new pre-school property PJ Masks, Chan’s vision and leadership will be a key asset to achieving deeper penetration of our properties across Asia.”

Previously, Chan worked as general manager at Alpha Animation Brand Management Co, and also held the position of head of licensing at Hasbro and commercial manager at WHSmith."

Might just explain why ITV hurriedly stepped aside, if someone else comes in, carves it up and serves them ETO Television on a plate.

In my opinion ITV made a major error of judgment in not pursuing ETO, and the ETO growth in the next couple of years will clearly show this.

There are not many production companies out there like Mark Gordon, more of less doubling production financing this year and next.

Just wait until Designated Survivor hits the screens ...

I hope you get my point breaktwister, as this company really does have tremendous investment opportunities that will make a meaningful contribution to earnings in contrast to that of others like ITV for instance.

Most of their growth going forward should be organic rather than acquired, and I for one can't see why they should't continue the 24% CAGR they have seen in television for the next few years. Mark Gordon in particular is growing like a weed, with investment up to £100m this year and potential to double next. And then Peppa I think everyone knows the story.
