Investor discussions regarding Ensilica Plc (ENSI) observed a mix of cautious optimism and concern over the company's financial outlook. A key development was the updated coverage from Stonegate, which raised interest among US investors. However, concerns were voiced regarding the ambitious £30 million forecast for FY25, following only £9.3 million in H1. Felxi1 noted, “I’ve built my own detailed model based on announced contracts… I can see £21m in H2…”, indicating a more conservative yet potentially achievable projection based on existing contracts.
Despite the financial skepticism, management reassured investors that they do not anticipate a fundraising round and expect to maintain £2 million in cash at the end of FY25, moving towards cash positivity by Q4 FY26. Investor sentiment seemed to hinge on the company's growth story, particularly in high-potential sectors like space communications, as highlighted by paraone3, stating, “They are certainly concentrating on chips for the Space Comms… this has vast potential.” The discussions reveal a market eager to see more news to counteract the current drift in stock price, suggesting that while investors are intrigued by the long-term growth potential, immediate financial performance remains a pressing concern.

EnSilica Plc recently reported significant developments despite facing widening losses in its financial performance. For the half-year period ending November 30, 2024, the company reported revenues of £9.3 million, slightly declining from £9.6 million in the previous year. However, chip supply revenue surged by 164%, rising from £1.1 million to £2.9 million, highlighting a strong demand in this sector. The company recorded an EBITDA loss of £0.2 million compared to a profit of £0.5 million in the same period last year, which contributed to a decrease in share value as markets reacted negatively to the wider-than-anticipated pretax loss.
In a positive development, EnSilica secured over £10 million in funding from the UK Space Agency to support the development of components for next-generation satellite broadband hardware. This funding, part of the Connectivity in Low Earth Orbit (C-LEO) programme, is anticipated to bolster EnSilica's growth strategy and its efforts to establish a leading position in the tech-driven semiconductor market. With five design and supply contracts won and more expected by year-end, EnSilica is focusing on leveraging high-growth opportunities in emerging technologies, despite recent financial challenges.

You'd think, but I'm not sure what RR have to do with land transport. I'd say GE, but I think they have split up now. |
That was my thought. |

Re the 200m contract that they declined, based on the upfront skin in the game costs they participate in, they could theoretically only require 5% input = 10m. Also possible if they become a sought after quality technical provider with a must have know how, that such skin in the game costs could become a changeable paradigm. |
You can almost taste the re-rating here.Needs skilful leadership, a good product or innovation and a touch of luck. Seems we are 2/3rds there. |
Nice to see people discussing Ensilica on a Sunday on this bulletin board , shows that people are starting to realise their great potential going forward . Tellingly Mark. Hodgekinson mentioned that they turned down a bid for 200 m Dollar contract as the did not have the financial clout at this time , that will change within 2 years , the you may see them winning contracts of that size and posting revenues in the 100s of millions per year . |
I have recent experience of the abbot ones. They are indeed good however do need replacing every 14 days.I'd go for slightly less accuracy and a longer lifespan any day. A sensor that energises through NFC would really be game changing. |
It doesn't seem like glucose sensing is the primary driver for this chip. If it were, they would be promoting it more prominently. |
Thanks Valh |

I dumped my smart watch last year in favour of a smart ring (ringconn), so I could wear a dress watch instead. Like most I carry my phone at all times so realise I had no need for a watch to tell me what my phone was already telling me. The ring stats are just as accurate with 7 day battery life.A device that can minitaturise such features and even better be disposable could be game changing not just for health maintenance but in a hospital setting as well. |
Oura sells 2.5m rings a year. Just launched a new version which has better battery power. Samsung has recently launched a ring called Galaxy. |

Simon r.e. tape-out to production, I guess this is where the Taiwan Semi relationship comes in. I don't have an answer but if they have slots for partner designers for short volumes then it would be pretty quick. I presume in any case that test wafers would be produced to verify the design in practice, get yield estimates and so on. |

On the subject of chips etc - Secrets of Silicone Valley on iPlayer is worth a watch, although a bit scary. Interviewer visits the new Apple build and security are on the public road outside, doing the “you can’t film here” stuff. |
I wonder if they’ll sell that to COG - got a few shares there bit not overly confident in them. |

A healthcare chip has been out for evaluation since Q2 2022. All the design has been funded by Ensilica. A number of healthcare companies have expressed interest. |
