Of course taxing the producer does nothing to consumption. It just increases imports which ultimately reduces the value of the pound. Politicians are forever moaning that their poor public image is unwarranted which just about sums up how out of touch they are, and how completely clueless the majority are. The public in general are fed up with being lied to.

The correct policy for reducing consumption of fossil fuels would be to slap an extra tax on gas which when burned creates CO2. The environmental impact of electricity is much lower, and yet we have the ludicrous situation that gas is far cheaper. I know it won't fly as a policy, more's the pity.

ENQ might pick up some cheap assets as other North Sea players bail out, but if you can't make an after tax profit there isn't much point. Perhaps it's time to look elsewhere in the world for investment opportunities.

Unite union (the largest filth Labour party donor) have said that North Sea oil jobs cannot be sacrificed on the altar of fascist Net Zero ideology. Unite need to go further and threaten to withdraw funding to Labour before the next General Election. Ed Miliband and Starmer should be crucified. This is a party who is promising to destroy an industry and its employees. Voters vote for these scum.

Tickling round the edges. When the fulcrum tips this is off and running. By memory. Their current market cap is about what they paid for Golden Eagle including the later payment. If they sold it for £60 million now. That would buy back 1/5th of the company. What reserves are left there?

As I read yesterday's RNS, the first phase relates to the first 25m shares bought back to be held in treasury for later distribution. The remaining c.45m will be cancelled:

"To the extent permitted by law, and after the initial 25 million Ordinary Shares are purchased, all additional Ordinary Shares purchased under the Programme will be cancelled."
