The EHG portfolio is west coast based. The platinum coast, as it is referred to, is a lot higher end than the south coast. It's an absolute disgrace what's happening over there but it won't affect EHG.

Travel Weekly news article. According to a survey, Barbados is top travel destination, beating Seychelles. Also in the accommodation category, it came top as well.

I still see a lot of Americans, Canadians and Europeans wintering in Barbados.

Barbados is old hat now, who goes there now. Use to go a lot years ago, but not the same anymore. Lot better places in the world to go.

Its a bloody disgrace! Don't worry, the elections are due in May. And I certainly don't see the dollar strengthening any time soon, which bodes well for Bajan tourism as the currency is pegged 2:1 to USD.

The AGM is in London, it was a few weeks ago. I spoke to the nomad regarding this. The management in Barbados were not in attendance.

LBO - good point. Not sure it says where the AGM was held. The other way of looking at it though is that for all the senior management to travel to the UK is quite a chore. People can vote remotely. I agree though that as a UK listed company it should probably have the AGM in the UK and have it coinciding with investor meetings. If you are listed in the UK then management should come to the UK at least once a year I would have thought.

Might not be hard, though, to persuade large shareholders to travel to Barbados for the AGM!!!!!

Are the Board meetings held in Barbados? Would take a lot more then a day to fly over to Barbados and do a board meeting since the flights alone from the UK take at least 16 hours return. Buffet himself said in an interview on CNBC the reason he retired from the Board of Kraft was it was time consuming and each board meeting took up a few days when travel and preparation for the meeting was added in.

I'm quite happy to support Luke Johnson's re-election to the Elegant Hotel's board as a non executive. I doubt it takes more than a day a month of his time.

Good day rivaldo, it has always seemed to be a lovely place. I have spoken to tourists on the beach while I go swimming before and it's always been a very pleasant atmosphere.

As for the Speightstown economy, well the word on the street is that a big company is looking to invest a very large figure locally but it will require a change of government at the election. Different industry although still tourist-centric. Will generate a lot of revenue and boost wider economy.

Family and friends can always visit :)

Hi cmackay, my family and I have stayed at the Almond Beach a couple of times and absolutely loved it - charming resort, no pretensions, staff who can't do enough for you, good food, beautiful quiet beaches....such a shame it'll become just another Sandals enclave. I feel sorry for the staff who will be without jobs, and as you say, it'll hit Speightstown hard.

I envy your living there :o)) Mind you, I could do what I do just as well sitting on the beach out there. If it wasn't for family, friends, culture, sport etc etc....

Almond Beach is just down the road from me, it's going to hit the Speightstown economy hard for it to be closed for refurbishment for 3 years.

The Response of Various Real Estate Assets to Devaluation in Argentinahttp://www.reporteinmobiliario.com/nuke/article640-the-response-of-various-real-estate-assets-to-devaluation-in-argentina.htmlAfter the first three months of 2002, during which the real estate business market was practically paralyzed, the behavior of the different real estate sub-markets was different. The "industrial" market suffered the most important change of values after devaluation of the Argentine currency, with prices dropping 67% during the first year. Next was the "office" market depreciating 53% during the same period. The residential "apartment" market value dropped 29% during the first year after devaluation.

Don't see it as a problem for ehg, they are tapped into the tourist dollar, not the domestic economy. Interesting read nonetheless, thank you for sharing.

Sorry let me introduce myself rather than ask questions, I've recently bought a small holding here with the aim to build a larger holding long term. I am hoping to attend the AGM, will anyone else be there? I would be grateful to anyone willing to point me in the direction of further research for the company, direct or indirect. Thanks.
