From the article:

"Australian mining company Intra Energy Corporation (ASX:IEC) and Chinese hydropower company Sinohydro Corporation will jointly develop the 270MW Ngaka coal power station in south-western Tanzania. This was indicated in a recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two companies. According to the MoU, Sinohydro will be the majority shareholder and will be responsible for the engineering, construction, operations, and financing. Tancoal Energy, a subsidiary of IEC, will be responsible for the development, mining and supply of coal to the 270MW Ngaka coal-fired power station. IEC Chairman Graeme Robertson said: “The MOU represents the next stage in entering into a formal relationship to bring the project to fruition.” The Ngaka power station is expected to consume up to 1.2m t of coal per year from Tancoal, which has a coal resource of 423m t."

Assume from this that EDL's power station should consume c600,000 tonnes of coal per year. So, along with coal supply shipments production should be good for nearly 200 years!

This makes an interesting read. Suggests there is a lot of potential for coal fired power in Tanzania which the Government seem supportive of.

Thanks Tony. That's Gggggrrrrrreat (couldn't help it)!

Seems like EDL are on course to exceed their 10,000 - 15,000 monthly production target.

If they hit 20,000 tonne per month at $15 profit per tonne then they will be making about £2.6m per year.

Do you think the estimate of $10-$20 profit per tonne is a conservative one? It is certainly a broad one. Perhaps dependant on the quality of the coal, size of orders, transport arrangements.

Company seems to be valued on the mining operation alone at the moment. Seems like progress with the coal to power project should start speeding up as the year progresses. With the government keen on the idea hopefully they will pay a price which gives EDL a decent profit. Assuming it will be the government buying the power from EDL rather than energy companies.

New to this company.

Any idea what sort of price they will receive for their coal? Guessing it will be similar to the market price of around $50 per tonne.

Also, do they have a time frame for getting the power plant in to production? Do they have funding for construction from their Chinese partners?
