Total energy use will continue to increase with great vigour as humanity moves on. The cost of some sources less than others.The CO2 output very variable some producing asymptotic to zero.So as use grows if greenhouse gases are a threat chose those with much less output.A benign overlap is that low CO2 sourced are also lower cost.UK made a coal a stranded asset with 2000 years of supply still to hand but it was more expensive to use it . ( a personable fave of mine because of the fact it could supply constantly is tidal but others font rage about it) |
An interesting observation on the Net Zero debate that caught my attention was made by Art Berman ( )
He made the Jevon's Paradox observation that all new energy sources only add to the total energy available and used so in effect Wind or Solar add to Coal and Gas they do not replace it..which suggests Net Zero aspirations are political theatre just like the Pandemic was.
Jevon's Paradox: new sources of energy are consumed rather than substituted for existing sources.
