Reflective Interview with biologist Rafael Juncosa Founder of Futureco Bioscience (Sumitomo partner) about the evolution of Biopesticide companies over past 20 years and I guess we can read across to the ER evolution.

'Did you know that the environmentalist dream would become a demand from society and worldwide governments?

Yes. We realized 20 years ago. Large companies are now beginning. They start 15 years after we started thinking about NOFLY. We have 15 years of experience in biopesticide products. Big companies cannot afford the time with all the money they have, what they can do is buy other smaller companies that have agrobiological inputs like us.

Do you think that the current context is favorable although the registration processes to commercialize these products are too long?

Time and barriers of registration are both changing. Although the requirements are the same for approving a product to enter the market, it is becoming increasingly easier. The time it takes is shortening, and not only in Europe, where the process is the longest. In the United States, South America and Morocco registration is shorter. In countries like Peru, when a chemical pesticide takes from 2 to 3 years to register, a biopesticide takes only eight months to be registered. Morocco also prioritizes agrobiologicals on agrochemicals. There is an institutional awareness in specific countries to facilitate registration , marketing and use of these products'.

'What is the greatest satisfaction in your career?

In confidence, the best is how the story has changed, from when we knocked door to door of large companies, explaining how good our products could be in a future, to the moment when are those large companies that come knocking on your door to propose serious alliances, collaborations and projects. It is really satisfying.'

Sumitomo Announces New Mode of Action for Adult Mosquito Control

2014..According to Sumitomo, extensive trials have confirmed the efficacy of this product against both resistant and susceptible malaria transmitting mosquitoes under both laboratory and field conditions. “As this product has a different mode of action chemistry from currently available interventions, it is also ideally suited for use in resistant management strategies and will therefore help preserve the effectiveness of existing vector control tools.”

2015 "Products that exhibit immediate and sustained efficacy against lice and their eggs, safety, and ease of use are well-positioned to secure market leadership in a relatively short time frame. The incumbent treatments not only fall short with respect to these qualities, but they also suffer when highly-adaptable lice develop resistance to many of the most effective synthetic actives. We believe TerpeneTech's products will fit a major unmet market need".

Over the past four years TerpeneTech has developed a number of products using Eden's GO-Eâ„¢ encapsulation system and IP, some of which now form the basis for products in areas outside of the biocides sector, for which TerpeneTech already has the exclusive rights from Eden for certain applications.

2014 'The extension of the agreement follows on from the commercial launch of two TerpeneTech pet odour neutralising products for companion animals in France. The products utilise Eden's encapsulation technology and marked the first ever commercial launch of products using Eden's intellectual property ("IP") and expertise in encapsulation. The extension of the agreement will allow TerpeneTech to launch a range of additional products using Eden's IP for agro-industrial use in ant, mite and insect control as well as consumer products that address outdoor insect control, odour neutralisation and carpet bugs'.

A NOVEL TOLYPOCLADIUM ALBUM STRAIN

A novel fungal strain of Tolypocladium album (synonym Chaunopycnis alba) is disclosed that has enhanced toxicity against insects and mites. This novel Tolypocladium album strain is capable of producing terpendoles A, C, I, J, K, N. O and P through fermentation and does not produce nalanthalide.

METHODS OF CONTROLLING PESTS USING TERPENDOLES

The present, invention is directed to a method of controlling a pest comprising applying an effective amount of one or more teipendoles to the pest or an area in need of pest control. The present invention is further directed to a method of controlling a pest comprising applying an effective amount of one or more compounds having the following chemical, structure, to the pest or an area in need of pest control.

Description.

FIELD OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates to a method of controlling a pest comprising applying an effective amount of one or more terpendoles to the pest or an area in need of pest control.
The present invention further relates to a method of controlling a pest comprising applying an effective amount of one or more compounds having the following chemical structure to the pest or an area in need of pest control.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

Arthropod pests are one of the major threats to human welfare and exert continued stress on the food supply via herbivory, fouling and disease transmission. Synthetic insecticides played a significant role and, in many ways, ushered in modern agriculture and pest control. However, there is increasing pressure from the public and from regulatory agencies to reduce or eliminate the exclusive use of synthetic chemical in the control of agricultural arthropod pests. The widespread use of available insecticides has resulted in the development of resistant insect populations. Insecticide resistance is a complex phenomenon manifested in a diverse array of physiological and/or behavioral mechanisms. Major mechanisms that are responsible for the development of insecticide resistance are metabolic detoxification, target site mutation, reduced cuticular penetration and behavioral avoidance. Novel classes of natural insecticides are needed to combat the ever-increasing number of resistant insect species and populations.

Indole-diterpenes are a natural, structurally diverse group of secondary metabolites with a common cyclic diterpene backbone derived from geranylgeranyl diphosphate and an indole group derived from indole-3-glycerol phosphate. Terpendoles are a specific class of indole-diterpene alkaloids produced by fungi that were first discovered by Huang et al. when screening for acyl-CoA:cholesterol acyltransferase inhibitors. Huang et al. Terpendoles, Novel ACAT inhibitors produced by Albophoma yamanashiensis I. production, isolation and biological properties, J Antibiot (Tokyo). 1995 Jan, 48(1), 1-4. Specifically, Huang et al. discovered terpendoles A-D. Since that time, 10 additional terpendoles have been described in the literature and termed terpendoles E-M. To date, terpendoles have been further discovered to inhibit motor activation of mitotic kinesin Eg5. See, Nakazawa J. et al., A novel action of terpendole E on the motor activity of mitotic Kinesin Eg5, Chem Biol, 2003 Feb, 10(2), 131-137. Due to its role in inhibition mitotic kinesin, terpendole E is currently being researched as a possible anti-cancer drug. However, there is no known application of terpendoles that would benefit humans.
Given that there is currently no known use for terpendoles and also given that resistance is problematic for insect pest populations, we assert that there is a need in the art for novel uses of terpendoles as natural pesticides.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The present invention is directed to a method of controlling a pest comprising applying an effective amount of one or more terpendoles to the pest or an area in need of pest control.
The present invention is further directed to a method of controlling a pest comprising applying an effective amount of one or more compounds having the following chemical structure to the pest or an area in need of pest control.

Results

As seen in Table 2 above, terpendole C effectively controlled the aphids including: cotton aphids, foxglove aphids, cabbage aphids, birdcherry-oat aphids and green peach aphids. Further, terpendole C effectively controlled the lepidopterans, including diamondback moth and common cutworm, either by killing the larvae or suppressing the appetite of the larvae. Finally, terpendole C significantly controlled the whitefly and the thrips.

Northwick,

Eden will not pay anything to Proactive for those articles written. Proactive are simply building content themselves. Obviously Eden will pay for films and any presentations they appear at in Mayfair with Proactive.

Super,

You have been posting for ages about the direction of travel and trends and with Pesticide being (arguably) a dirty word, a product type to move away from wherever possible, an unethical investment for some institutions and definitely green funds, then words, explicitness, image and corporate understanding are everything. As I posted on the other thread, Eden's strapline is "The Natural Solution" so you have to live by that belief and product deliverable. I also agree that Eden might well consider putting "bio" before any product they produce that will clearly fit that moniker.

If people understand that Eden is both bio and tech (unique we are told) and one of only a few globally.... then the chance of getting new investment into today's share price is heightened. People could also be advised of the trends with examples to show that Eden is directionally correct and that they are ahead of the game, vis-à-vis most of their competition.

It wouldn't go a miss to do a lengthy piece with Proactive Investors that details this very subject and break it down so that investors can clearly see and understand (hopefully) the short-term, mid-term and if Eden ever stays in existence long enough, the long-term gains to be had by investing in Eden Research Plc.

I agree with you Investing.

Technically by definition Eden are in the pesticide business, a business that is dominated by very nasty chemicals and Rogue companies who's reputation is finally catching up with them and who are now, as Sean would diplomatically say.. be under Regulatory pressure.. because they contribute towards killing life on earth which is the opposite of the corporate music and message.

Personally I would prefer to see the word Bio-pesticide or Bio-nematicide used to describe, announce and define the progressive difference of Eden Tech. Also since we are in the Sustainability Mega Trend the marketing and language should be sensitive to and align with the Direction of Travel and sentiment of these times.

Bayer pushed to put growth plans on ice

Germany's Environment Ministry has announced that it will impose tougher curbs on the sale of glyphosate and similar herbicides within the country. German Environment Minister Svenja Schulze declared that her ministry would change the approval process for pesticides and herbicides that affect the environment.

"If other, perhaps even more damaging, pesticides are used instead of glyphosate, the environment won't be any better off, so we will demand new nature-conservation requirements for the approval process of every pesticide that harms biodiversity," she said.

Super,

The politico article is a good example of why Eden should not allow others, in this case Proactive Investors, to refer to Cedroz as a pesticide. It is to my mind, potentially very damaging to who Eden are and what they produce.

Errors like this should be corrected and insisted upon. Eden cannot afford to be misunderstood by the investing community.

In Tours, neurobiology researchers have proven that glyphosate has an effect on mosquitoes

At the insect biology research institute in Tours, scientists have proved that glyphosate also affects the development of mosquitoes. This study, published in a prestigious international journal, has something to worry about. Reportage.

The study by Fernando Mordi Guerrieri was published in 2018 in the prestigious journal "Journal of experimental biology".

The neurobiologist has proved that the effects of the pesticide were not limited, as claimed by its manufacturers, to plants alone. Glyphosate affects the development of the mosquito.

"When we raise a mosquito larva with a dose of glyphosate equivalent to what we can find residual in the field, we see that the mosquito larva no longer has its ability to learn."

How to know if a mosquito is affected in its development?
In his laboratory of the Irbi (Insect Biology Research Institute) of Tours, Fernado Guerrieri has reconstructed the natural development space of a mosquito larva. They evolve in the water with a mechanism that makes them shade. Like a leaf that would pass over them.

"Mosquito larvae are aquatic animals that need to be hung on the surface of the water to breathe air, but when there is an object that moves above the surface, projecting a shadow, the larvae have the innate response of diving to avoid the potential danger, but the animal can not stay underwater for a long time, so it is important for the animal to learn to recognize the real dangers. 'non-dangerous object like a leaf projects its shadow several times on the surface, the larva learns that there is no danger and stops diving. This behavior is changed in the presence of glyphosate,' says the neurobiologist.

What does this study tell us?
This study reveals that contrary to what the manufacturers say since the 70s, this herbicide does not act only on plants. We already know that it has a neurotoxic effect on bees that, exposed to glyphosate do not find their way. It was also known that it affected the development of embryos of frogs.

This study provides further evidence that the most used pesticide has an effect on animal development. "It proves the harmful effects of glyphosate on animals, on small animals, the effects are seen in a few days, on large animals like us, it will be seen in the longer term.We will have to make clinical studies and field observations in humans, to see what the consequences are for our health, not just to change the molecule for an equivalent molecule but to change the way we treat the environment to preserve biodiversity. "

The neurobiologist calls on the government: "I think that the authorities and those who make the decisions should pay particular attention to scientific studies, we do them as a public service agent in the interest of citizens, rather than following recommendations made by corporations with special interests ".

The goal of the marketing efforts is to create more "shareworthy content" that would build public support for the use of pesticides and genetically modified organisms, according to the leaked presentation. It is coming to light at a time when the industry is under scrutiny over public health concerns that could prompt governments to impose tougher regulations that cut into profits.

Newsweek Gets Ad Money from Bayer, Prints Op-Eds That Help Bayer

Newsweek failed to disclose the chemical industry connections of two opinion writers who argued today in an op-ed that glyphosate can’t be regulated. The commentary by Henry I. Miller and Stuart Smyth, both of whom have ties to Monsanto that were not disclosed in the piece, appeared soon after a federal jury handed cancer victim Edwin Hardeman an $80 million verdict against Monsanto (now Bayer), and said the company’s glyphosate-based Roundup herbicide was a “substantial factor” in causing Hardeman’s cancer.

I do question this Forbes article as well..while were on the subject of Paid opinion Pieces.
