Transport and agriculture have a number of sectors that have great problems in terms of atmospheric disturbance. EU countries: if the prime and principal are responsible for emissions of carbon monoxide, agriculture is relatively low in ammonia.
Let's say good news: in 2016, in a light-hearted manner, it emitted dioxin-lowering atmospheres that are more harmful, such as oxide oxides (NOx), non-metallic volatile organic compounds (NMVOC), zoli (SO2) and ammoniaca biosides (NH3) . Meanwhile, news - for the third consecutive year, there is an increase in the amount of ammonia, showing a growth of 0.5% in 2015 and 2% in 2014. The emission of ammonia is a product of the agricultural sector and, in particular, the intense form that has neglected in the last decades: it issues the extended use of synthetic and organic fertilizers and the management of livestock animals (emissioni dal ricovero e dallo inventory). Pesticide use in French agriculture increased by 12.4%



The 2016-2017 figures on the evolution of pesticide consumption in French agriculture have finally been made public: they show an increase of 12.4% compared to 2009. For France Nature Environnement, it is a fact of Failure: Successive Ecophyto plans launched since 2008, whose initial goal was to reduce pesticide use by 50% by 2018, have proven to be ineffective. To redress the bar, the Minister of Agriculture announced the plan Ecophyto 2+, the exit of glyphosate in 3 years and the ban of neonicotinoids. Will that suffice?


Policy inefficiency: millions spent and nature never so bad
The urgency is there. The consequences of a massive use of pesticides are indeed identified, the indicators are all red: impact more and more proven on the health of consumers and farmers, decline of biodiversity [1], degradation of ecosystems, pollution water [2] and air, etc. Yet the use of pesticides continues to increase.
For Claudine Joly, in charge of pesticide issues at France Nature Environnement: "despite the tens of millions of euros of public money spent on Ecophyto every year, French agriculture can not free itself from its excessive use of pesticides. The conclusion is clear, the goals, already rejected, reduction of pesticides by 50% in 2025 move away a little more. The Ecophyto tool is interesting but the release of pesticides will not happen without the activation of other economic and regulatory levers necessary to obtain a mobilization of the entire profession.
Over the last 10 years, the structures supposed to accompany farmers towards the release of pesticides have not even managed to stabilize their use ... despite the half-billion mobilized. They have never even had an account of the use of the funding received under the plan. It is time for them to reconsider and transform themselves, to truly accompany farmers towards the exit of pesticides.
The announcements will not be enough to trigger the agroecological transition.

The solution contracts presented by the FNSEA are welcome, but they arrive 10 years late ... and it will take more than good intentions to go to the exit of pesticides. Ministers this morning also announced measures to remove glyphosate and neonicotinoids, and three interprofessionals presented their strategy and commitments. These are encouraging signals. The rest of the profession must commit to rapidly expanding the movement.
For Cecile Claveirole, responsible for agricultural issues at France Nature Environment: "Although the government has announced measures, but it should not be the tree that hides the forest. Beyond the prohibition of the most worrying molecules, the objective is the global and drastic reduction of the use of pesticides in France. Time is no longer good intentions and other voluntary steps. It requires strong and uncompromising government support for the agroecological transition. It can no longer ignore the will of citizens: agriculture must ensure a healthy and quality food for all, while preserving the environment and biodiversity.

Just listened to Alexander Downer Former Australian High Commissioner and now chair of the Policy Exchange Think Tank' (probrexit) say unchallenged by host that the EU use the precautionary principle which is a rule with no scientific basis just has a political basis to it.

Utter nonsense.

Post Brexit Food standards are the biggest existential threat to UK imo as poorer regulation will lead to chronic health issues for huge swaths of the population.(see USA) that threaten to overwhelm the health care system.

You think thing are bad now ..we have seen nothing yet.

Presence of pesticides in food: stable level, latest figures



Europeans continue to eat foods that are largely free of pesticide residues or contain them within legal limits, as shown by the figures in the latest surveillance report.
More than 96% of the samples analyzed for the latest annual report on pesticide residues in foods are within legal limits and about 51% are free of any quantifiable residue.
Vytenis Andriukaitis, European Commissioner for Health and Food Safety, said: "As in previous years, this report confirms the high level of compliance of foods on the shelves in the EU. Every year Member States control thousands of food products to check whether legal limits are being met. These controls are owed to the citizens of Europe to ensure that the EU's food chain is not only the most rigorous and the most controlled in the world, but that we are determined to improve it continuously. "
In parallel with the publication of this year's report, EFSA has developed a simple graphical tool allowing users to visualize the main results obtained by country and by food product. This new tool is available in four languages ​​and complements the existing "dashboards" as it provides more detailed results and compares them to previous years.

Main results of the year 2016
Reporting countries analyzed 84,657 samples for 791 pesticides.
96.2% of the samples (81 482) were within the limits allowed by EU legislation and 50.7% had no quantifiable residues, compared with respectively 97.2% and 53.3% the previous year ( 2015). The difference is mainly due to the presence of chlorate residues, a compound considered for the first time in 2016 in the control programs that accompany ongoing work to determine Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs).
The majority of samples tested (67%) came from EU Member States, Iceland and Norway, 26.4% were imported from third countries and 6.6% were of unknown origin.
Exceeding legal limits was observed in 2.4% of product samples from EU or EEA countries and in 7.2% of samples from non-EU countries.
Of the 1,676 food samples for infants and young children, 98.1% were within the limits allowed by EU legislation and 89.8% were free of quantifiable residues.
Of the 5,495 organic food samples collected in 2016, 98.7% were in the legal limits and 83.1% were free of quantifiable residues.

Program coordinated by the EU
In its annual report, EFSA examines the results of the EU coordinated monitoring program (EUCP), under which reporting countries analyze food samples in the same "basket" and for the same pesticides.
In 2016, this basket consisted of apples, cabbage, leek, lettuce, peaches, strawberries, tomatoes, rye, wine, cow's milk and pork fat.
Rye had the lowest MRL exceedance rate (0.7%), followed by cabbage (1.1%) and strawberries (1.8%). In contrast, the highest exceedance rates were recorded for apples (2.7%) and tomatoes (2.6%).
Risk Assessment
EFSA has conducted an acute (short-term) and chronic (long-term) dietary risk assessment, based on the results of the EUCP program. In both cases, the health risks to consumers were considered low.

Just me posting my observations on the various issues the conventional pesticide industry is faced with, this strand or theme being the threat pesticide resistance poses to the industry as it's conventional tools become less effective. I posted a similar article on cyst Nematode a week or so ago where resistance to had become widespread.

This post is about Fungicide resistance in Wheat , here if I have understood it correctly, the author is reporting that the pathogen Zymoseptoria Tritici a major pathogen of wheat globally and the most damaging pathogen of wheat in Europe is becoming increasingly resistant to fungicide treatment.

In 2017, in France, the biocontrol market1 stood at € 140 million, or 5% of that for plant protection. This sector employs 500 people in France. The BIB 20172 (IBMA France3 Barometer of the Biocontrol), brings an updated lighting on this market, considering the activity of the members of IBMA France.

2017 is marked by a further annual increase of + 25% in biocontrol turnover achieved by the sales of IBMA France members (see graph 1). "This double-digit growth, for the second year in a row, augurs well," said Antoine Meyer, President of IBMA France. "However, it will be necessary to redouble our efforts to increase the market for plant protection by 5 to 15% in 2025, our ambition being to provide French A griculture, JEVI 4 and Civil Society with sufficient numbers. solutions that meet their respective expectations! The activity of IBMA France members represents 90% of the biocontrol market in France. Its breakdown by family of biocontrol products retains, in 2017, proportions similar to those of 2016:  Natural substances = 59% of turnover;  Chemical mediators: 18%;  Macro-organisms: 14%;  Microorganisms: 9%.

Agriculture and JEVI On the other hand, the activity of the members of IBMA France is divided between the sales of biocontrol products destined for agricultural sectors (66%) and those intended for JEVI (34%); see graphs 2 and 3. The latter grew significantly faster with growth of + 76%, compared to + 9% growth on the agricultural side. "It should not be overlooked in order to get the most out of the re ception of the re ception and in n o v a tio n, y o m p o rt o f th e J E V I, which lack solutions! Insecticides and Fungicides, Biocontrol-Bearing Segments In addition, the 2017 BIB now makes it possible to measure the breakdown of product sales in relation to the two main types of uses of biocontrol products: insecticides (51% of sales) and fungicides (22%). These unusual distributions in plant protection - we are more accustomed to seeing herbicides top sales, followed by fungicides and then only insecticides - are another illustration of the priorities of biocontrol: deploy more biocontrol solutions and accelerate research and innovation in other segments, including herbicides (see graph 6). The members of IBMA France are working on it, collectively:  By proposing each year a conference on biocontrol.  By contributing to the Biocontrol Academy as part of the training offered by the latter.  As an active partner of the Solutions Contract initiated by the FNSEA and supported by 40 partners.  As a founding member of the Public-Private Research and Development Consortium on Biocontrol.

Research & innovation IBMA members also devote significant resources to research and development of biocontrol solutions: nearly 40% of active members have devoted 12% of biocontrol turnover in 2017 to R & D budget on biocontrol. "We must, here, emphasize the strong commitment of companies with this investment rate of 12%! Our request is clear, confirms Antoine Meyer, it is necessary to continue to encourage this over - investment in doubla nt the rate of Credits Imp ô t Research on the b iocontrol in France: it is the case or allowing lo make the research work in France and encourage the acceleration needed to meet the challenges of French agriculture and JEVI. Finally, an internal survey conducted by IBMA France in December 2017 indicates that at least 50 new biocontrol products at least should be launched by 2020, and again about 50 products after 2020 (see Appendix 2).

Current research includes study of SCN-resistant soybean varieties, effects of nematode-protectant seed treatments, and the effects of cover crops on SCN biology and management.
