> Somebody mentioned The Marconi?...is there anybody who doesn't remember Marconi...

I worked for them, did my industrial placement during college with Marconi Avionics and then my first job was with GEC Avionics.

Thankfully Dowlais has managed to avoid a predicted collapse (by some) into the 50s/40s.

Results due next Tuesday.

Oh yes, good old Marconi. I bought shares back in the day. More fool me. Not much thankfully. What I had left the stock-broker couldn't sell because the value of the stock was lower than the minimum trade fee which the computer didn't like. They had to paper process the sale. I wanted it sold as I was sick and tired of seeing the irrelevant item listed on my stock-broker updates.

£3.5Bn write down on recent acquisitions if I remember correctly. Relates to the rather large write down here not long ago. I didn't learn my lesson it seems.

reminds me a bit of the old GEC, run by Lord Weinstock, which was then split up renamed Marconi and destroyed by the clueless Board led by Simpson

They have ALREADY sold an asset in hydrogen. They didn't feel it necessary to tell the owners.

Such a shame that a long-standing company such as GKN is run by a bunch of modern-day ego clowns.

I think the only option the company has is either sack the BoD or sell the assets

Continental downgrades sales forecast as European vehicle production slows
Continental has lowered its full-year sales outlook as one of Europe’s largest suppliers to the car industry warns of a further fall in vehicle production in the region.

The Hanover-based company — which this week announced plans to spin off its core automotive division — said it expected slight growth in vehicle production beyond Europe this year to be offset by a slump in its home region, where sales growth of electric vehicles has stalled.

The company said it expected car production in Europe to drop 4 to 6 per cent this year, a deeper fall than its previous estimate of 1 to 3 per cent.

"Yes they have Chinese manufacturing but they also have Chinese manufacturing rivals who will soon match if not surpass Dowlais current offerings."

Why do you think that the competition of Chinese manufacturing will be better than what Dowlais has in China?

Where are your facts?

And how do you figure than one out?

They have Chinese manufacturing.

Yes they have Chinese manufacturing but they also have Chinese manufacturing rivals who will soon match if not surpass Dowlais current offerings.
They need to keep innovating

The thing is SKEPPY INVESTOR does NOT know how to short-sell anything and he certainly can't put up any collateral or margin.

SKEPPY lost all his money on Boohoo shares.

Yes a common problem with british industry. The fat cats tend not to be a company BoD but rather union fat cats milking it dry

I doubt there will be a bid for Dowlais in its current state

The other problem it has is the Chinese are fast matching and taking it over in terms of electric car components, not long before they are uncompetitive unless they continue to innovate

Nice of you to take an interest. Currently I'm down £2990.58 on my DWL Holding.

In a mixed bag, other holdings include:

BT.A Up £6020.80
EZJ Down £340.33
ITV Up £2287.75
LLOY Up £3454.35
NG. Up £2254,71
PRU Down £1637.91

BT.A, ITV, LLOY, NG. were all down initially after buying in. I look for recovery stocks, I rarely buy short term. Though did so on INDV recently, a gain of £1517.14 in a few days. Should have continued to hold as would have doubled that, but there we go.
