30/9/2017 16:19 | The economy was a lot weaker 5 years ago, and they still made money with the share price double what it is now. The economy is not the deciding factor here, it's how well the new business model is working imo. | terminated
29/9/2017 10:11 | Time will tell, GDP figures show a weakening economy. Analysts and financial wiz kids get it wrong all the time, its impossible to predict a sudden bull run and anyone thinking the market has hanged. | simon templar qc
28/9/2017 23:27 | Simon not the templar how could you get it so wrong?? | qantas
28/9/2017 21:42 | As predicted, bulls are back, snapping up cheap stocks. | ny boy
28/9/2017 19:32 | This link may be of interest to the bulls.. | simon templar qc
28/9/2017 17:41 | This just gets better ! | chinese investor
28/9/2017 17:34 | So almost a 22% rise now in a matter of weeks. 50p beckons. | justiceforthemany
27/9/2017 15:52 | The question for me is at what stage will shorts begin to close. Running up to results with a market cap under 600m and expected profits of 90+m, a rising pound and encouraging news about the new concept stores. 60p+ in a month or two imo. | terminated
26/9/2017 11:32 | John Lewis weekly sales out Little time to go into detail but seems slight improvement in second half for JL excluding Waitrose. On other matters in retail sector Card Factory sees slowdown in second half. edit: Afterthought JL has increased its shelf space by circa 4% taking this into account, they look to be increasing market share on fashion. But the question is at what price point? | simon templar qc
25/9/2017 11:32 | Plus you can't show off your intellectual capacity with a kindle on the shelf ;-) | terminated
25/9/2017 10:57 | I'm afraid you cannot replace reading a good book. There is something very relaxing sitting quietly turning the pages. This isn't replicated reading a kindle or something online. | 1fox1
24/9/2017 14:46 | I buy from Amazon and online as well, but comparing Waterstone's to a normal retailer is futile its a completely different model. Good look to all holders I am only giving my own view and time will tell if I am wrong or right. | simon templar qc
24/9/2017 12:35 | You're barking up the wrong tree, Simon. Amazon sell real books and always have. With most titles moving from physical book to e-book is as simple as clicking a single button. I don't know why it might be - I buy everything from Amazon myself - but there clearly is still significant demand for bricks and mortar bookstores. | grahamite2
23/9/2017 12:15 | Still the third highest credit rating. Still a very strong credit rating and a strong economy, and expected to stay so (the outlook is "stable"). Just not quite so strong. Will it affect gilt rates? Will it affect the consumer? I would say not a lot and not directly. Still, not great news for UK PLC, and underlines the weakness of the current administration. | edmundshaw
23/9/2017 11:08 | Moody's downgraded UK debt, this could now hit sterling... The financial analysts concur with my view, UK growth not good enough and next year will get worse, UK consumers will find spend tight. | simon templar qc
22/9/2017 19:11 | This is the reason for Waterstone the public want to encourage children from eye strain and many people like the feel of hard back books. | simon templar qc
22/9/2017 18:04 | Yes, a different case and a worse case, a harder case. Books are the perfect product for online retail - homogeneous, non-perishable, non-fragile, neither too cheap to merit the postage not too dear to be an acceptable risk. Yet Waterstone's still turns a profit even with a very extensive network. If they can do it Debenhams certainly can. | grahamite2
22/9/2017 17:49 | Watersones a completely different case. The public reverting back to hard back books due to eye strain from reading online. | simon templar qc
22/9/2017 17:21 | In hard copy we trust. | freddie ferret
22/9/2017 10:47 | My belief that the death of bricks and mortar retail has been overstated was confirmed recently by being given a Waterstone's gift card. A book is a book, one exactly the same as another; no freshness issues either. The most fertile ground for online there can possibly be. They cannot compete with Amazon on price and admit it freely. And yet, with all that, it has been trading profitably for several years now. The Debenham's range has many things really not suitable for online. If Waterstone's can survive in a far more challenging environment, Debenhams can too. | grahamite2
22/9/2017 08:52 | Nice start, 55p short term target here. | keya5000
22/9/2017 08:48 | Off we go again, 53p magnet is irresistible | ny boy
21/9/2017 19:35 | Strong vols, looking good, ignore the noise, bears are getting twitchy, climbing a wall of less worry GLA Gap to 53p resistance, first target. | ny boy |
