09/9/2004 08:17 | Thx to capercaillie for pointing the Biocote link out. I've posted this on the FLT board - FYI Flintstone have a 31% holding in Biocote, which was expected to break even in August just gone. FLT are capitalised at £5m, for which you get Biocote plus a load of other investments in companies with mature technologies. I've lurked on this board for ages expecting the CRPR price to fall further based on its performance - but it never does! So I've probably missed the boat, but good luck anyway. | rivaldo
09/9/2004 08:12 | Something happening here. Is Bio-cote the new TFP? | capercaillie

08/9/2004 19:45 | I simply lifted the article from their website www.cropper.com Could be enormous potential for this product when one considers the number of hospitals, clinics etc | capercaillie
08/9/2004 09:08 | I like the sound of this product, Caper. I have followed your postings over the last few months and have deduced that you probably work for the company, or, at the very least, are a Paper Industry insider. What is now required is aggressive `pushing` of this product to Health Authorities nationwide. make them feel `guilty` if they don`t adopt it as standard If it takes off does the company have the capacity to develop it and cash in? It seems a little small to me. | johnbarlow
07/9/2004 20:15 | DOCUGARD ANTI-MIROBIAL PAPER ... IN-BUILT PROTECTION Docugard is a new brand of anti-microbial papers from James Cropper. Docugard papers incorporate the patented BioCote® technology, proven to be an effective protection against harmful bacteria. In today's environment there is an increased awareness, and concern, about the problems caused by cross-contamination of bacteria on contact surfaces in the workplace, not least in the healthcare sector and also in the food and catering industries. Building on our technical expertise in producing high purity papers and grades for specialist industrial uses, it was a natural progression to enter into an exclusive agreement with BioCote® to encapsulate the anti-microbial system into papers and boards destined for use in such high risk environments. Initial production trials of Docugard were subjected to a series of rigorous laboratory tests. The results proved conclusively that the paper had excellent anti-bacterial properties and would form an effective part of good hygiene practices to protect against cross-contamination. Whilst Docugard is perfect for protecting hospital case notes and medical files against the proliferation of bacteria, James Cropper Speciality Papers can apply the BioCote® technology to any of the paper and board products produced at the mill. These include grades for filing, business stationery, envelopes, brochures, book-binding materials and packaging. Infection Control Products with BioCote® incorporate a silver active agent that is safe and yet effective against the growth of micro-organisms, such as the antibiotic resistant 'superbug' MRSA (staphylococcus), listeria, E-coli and salmonella. The biocide remains constant at the product surface and inhibits the microbes reproduction, interrupts metabolism, and disrupts cell wall functions. Using recognised scientific test methods Docugard achieved a 99.2% reduction in the MRSA strain after 24 hours ... creating a safer environment for users. | capercaillie

22/7/2004 08:25 | hybrasil, I have watched progress here for 4 years now - but still haven't bought yet. I will at some point. It is good that they can say that recovery continues. But is that recovery of sales or of profitability? The papershops look interesting. I live in Dover and assume that the Ashford shop will be at the factory outlet site up there. I will have a look when my wife inevitably drags me up there during the long school summer holiday.... :-) Nice also to see the UK support for the FCT element. The concern is that the positive opening then was followed by a series of caveats...... G. | garth
22/7/2004 08:16 | level 2 showed this as ex dividend yesterday. Garth I liked the start of the announcment- "the recovery continues". The substantial discount to NAV remains. I think I may just buy some more | hybrasil
21/7/2004 22:55 | Are you sure that is not the record date? Ex-divs are almost always on a Wednesday now. The RNS states "2. The dividend will, if approved, be paid on 13th August 2004 to all shareholders on the Register on 23rd July 2004." That means that the ex-div day is two days earlier (old practices used to mean it took two days for details to reach the records but now that everything is electronic a little outdated). | doubleorquits
21/7/2004 22:50 | According to accounts shares goes ex divi on 23rd July | capercaillie
21/7/2004 13:18 | Along with the comments on increasing competition, impact on profitability, dollar weakness and hopes that pulp prices have topped - for the time being; I think this is the main problem: "As I highlighted in my preliminary results statement in June, the recent escalation in the price of crude oil, natural gas and wholesale electricity will have a significant impact on energy costs in the current year, particularly during the winter months. The average cost of natural gas in the opening quarter was 21 pence per therm, against 17 pence per therm in the same period last year." Thats an almost 25% increase in energy costs. That's got to impact profitability. G. | garth
