Yeah, market weakness and this drops 5 per cent. But that's normal for shares that have done well.I think this just needs time, the biggest risk here is not the company's peformance, its the market's. With decent markets this should be 30 to 40% higher by year end.

Looking forward hopefully within this year seeing Costain in 3 digits and over the 100p mark. Been a long wait, but have confidence that the rerating is gradually taking place.

Solid figures from Kier and Galliford this week. Not quite same but hopefully should reassure the market for the sector a bit...

Things seem to be moving in the right direction, and I am happy about that. But let us not forget that some of us have bought shares at 60p at the 2020 capital raise. Much more remains to be done and I would like Alex Vaughan to be more proactive and signal his own conviction to the market by buying shares. If I am not wrong, he only owns 250K shares (I don't count the options, etc).

He'll be kicking himself that he didn't get in a while back. Even so, fair do's for seeing the value now and posting on his site. I agree with his tucking away and holding idea. This publicity should attract more PIs.

I see Robbie Burns has bagged a few here

“I got some Costain, this is a cheap looking and very interesting construction co as it's winning some big contracts in the water sector.

Water regulation means water companies are going to have to spend out and this is where Costain comes in.

Another great sign is net cash has soared.

It's gone up from £123 to £164 underlining a very strong performance.

With a PE of under 6, this looks a very nice buy and hold”

BlackRock, the world’s largest asset manager, has announced that it will acquire Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP) for a total consideration of $12.5 billion. The deal includes $3 billion in cash and approximately 12 million shares of BlackRock common stock. BlackRock’s CEO, Larry Fink, has stated that the acquisition is part of the firm’s increased focus on infrastructure, which he believes is “one of the most exciting long-term investment opportunities” 4

Yeah, used to be 3-3.5% approx. AV very cautious though so not expecting that initially, but as long as things keep steady he will have so much cash that the institutions will force it up. I'm sure that even now they are tucking margin away liabilitised on individual projects for a rainy day. My guess is 1.5% for next full year and rise from there. Will be interesting to see how the FY numbers compare with 2016-18. The II's will be looking saying -"you do that and we used to get this?"

The industry segment Costain operates in normally offer a 3% dividend. As we know Costain is reintroducing a dividend which works out as 0.5% I think, but expect to increase in coming couple of years to at least 2%.In 2018 dividend was 15p, but share price 300p to 400p from memory, and market cap was significantly higher.

Costain Group PLC (LSE:COST) is mulling restoring the dividend after a solid performance so far in 2023 and progress in boosting its financial position.

In the six months to 30 June 2023, the construction and engineering firm reported flat revenue of £664.4 million, but a 20% jump in pre-tax profit to £15.9 million from £13.3 million the year before.

The improved profit reflected robust growth in natural resources, resilience in transportation and continued positive cash generation.

This has left Costain looking at restoring the interim dividend with an announcement expected “shortly”;.

“The increase in operating performance and the positive outcomes regarding the pension review and refinancing, enables the board to consider the resumption of dividend payments, including the payment of an interim dividend in respect of the period to 30 June 2023,” the firm said.

The transformation programme to create efficiencies is on track, with further benefits to come in the coming months and Costain expects the sectoral growth seen in natural resources together with the rephasing and rescoping of some infrastructure projects in rail and road to continue for the remainder of the year and into 2024.

Expectations for the rest of the year remain unchanged, backed by more than 90% of revenue already being secured for the remainder of 2023.

'Expectations for the rest of the year remain unchanged, backed by more than 90% of revenue already being secured for the remainder of 2023.'. It isn't going to take much to exceed expections on sales for 2023

All parameters pointing in the right direction with growth through improvemen to come

Well done. Timing is everything I agree, it's also awfully difficult to do. However, knowledge of a company and faith can sometimes be equally profitable. Well done. This has momentum now, watch this fly. It would be good to look at shareholders and % of company held.

Yes Alex and Helen will be in line for decent bonus payments and suspect with share price growth might have clicked some upticks on their LTIP Plans. Anyway if profits and cash are up that's good news for all shareholders and employees as well.

Various bits:-

1. Re New Nuclear-Costain were looking at Wylfa a few years back... Not sure how they fared. I will find out.
2. The LSE news page is predicting a further trading statement/update next week..we are spoiled if that is correct. This time last year I received a rather blunt "get back in your box" type reply from IR when I asked if there was going to be a TU in Jan (23). No was the summary. And yet this year we may get 2 in a week? I wonder why? The cynic that speaks to my head says that is because AV's share price bonus measure runs from 1/1/24 to 31/12/24. Best give it as much time and pushes as possible lol.
3. Catabrit, thanks for kind words. This could indeed be the year when we get to meet and have some bubbles... Let's enjoy a bit of peace and love on this baord before the nut jobs arrive!
