For what it's worth I would be asking myself why has a share that was 51.3p a year ago become now worth 18p & what are the drivers for future share price growth?

No doubt in 5 yrs time the price will be higher but do you have the nerves to stand the ups & downs in the meantime?

Frankly, were it me, on the basis that you would have an AV of less than 30p & assuming you could still put food on the table I would go for it.

Only my opinion, obviously.

'My remark was that of these 30 random shares, 29 were down and Cksn was up.'

Which is why I meant that I bet you were glad that your watchlist was not your real investments! No offence intended.

Barlick, I don't understand your post, I hold 8 shares, Cksn being one of them (well under water, bought at 572p) I also have a watchlist of 30 shares I keep an eye on (Inc the shares I own and have owned and just interested in).

My remark was that of these 30 random shares, 29 were down and Cksn was up.

Today it's probably the other way around, so it was a pretty pointless post(mine)

'Well who would have thought it, Cksn was my only share to go up today and the only share in my 30 share watchlist to show an increase.'

Glad it's only your watchlist!! I would take another look if I were you.

Well who would have thought it, Cksn was my only share to go up today and the only share in my 30 share watchlist to show an increase.

Keep it up

OK, believe me, I have tried hard to resist but I am going back into Cookson on Monday.

What do they say the definition of madness is - 'repeating a process and expecting a different result'? Must be mad then!!!

Has to be one of the most under-priced shares out there!

Hope we get lucky together!

Quite a recovery.

Not an easy share for short sellers to drive down. It needs broader market weakness on a "risk-off" day to see sustained weakness.

At these levels the share price is trading on less than 7 times forecasted 2011 earnings.

One thing that is noticeable is just how low trading volume appears to be across the stockmarket for this time of year. And as a consequence individual shares are being subject to major moves in either direction.

Interesting - CKSN - one of the share laggards in the rally.

Will it be able to perform as share prices of mining companies take a breather ?

Whereas the FTSE100 has raced up to hit the underside of its 200 day Simple Moving Average, the FTSE250 has currently stalled at its 100 day Simple Moving Average. Any sustained rally has a habit of involving sector and index rotation.

How much more tree shaking can the MMs do before they have to let it go?

Thanks Andy, I thought China was the big one for Cksn and I keep reading about a "hard" landing for the China economy????

Whatever it is we want more of it, I need 528p for my remaining CKSN shares to be above water

Robert I would say improved sentiment in Eurozone coupled with positive news from Japan. Core machinery orders apparently rose 11% in August, which was their biggest growth in a year. This is a key indicator of capital expenditure trends in Japan.
Got this quote from the BBC website - "The data confirms corporate capital spending remains firm and there is little worry about a near-term downturn, since industries such as auto making have steadily increased spending," said Junko Nishioka of RBS Securities in Tokyo.
All this I would say was good news for Cookson and will hopefully see a climb away from recent share price trend.

Who would have thought a close over 500p when on the 4-10-11 it was 395p.

I sold at 486.6p a block of 3510 I bought (thinking then that was the bottom) at 481.7p on 23-8-11

So profit of £70 but I will get another 7.5p div on sold shares.

If I could have sold at today closing price I would have been £600 better off.

So CKSN up today, 7.5% and 35p to close 505p, any special reason???????

Hoorah! Hoorah! The world is saved!

Excuse the cynicism.

No more than 7 trading sessions ago the end of the world was nigh as equity markets stared into an abyss. And now all is well. The europeans have a plan of action - though currently still a bit sketchy. The Slovakians may have spoilt the party a bit but equity markets are not phased as they believe they too will ultimately see the light. And the BLS employment statistics released out of the US last Friday were a stark reversal as revisions revealed the US economy was in fact a net creator of jobs over the course of the last 3 months. Amazing!

So now the FTSE100 has technically moved from a breakdown to a breakup. Such extremes in such a short period of time. After the whipsawing experience of equity markets over the course of the last couple of months just who is brave enough to believe such volatility is now at an end and that the only way is up ?

The movers and shakers in equity markets still have not quite grasped the fact that the western consumer is not making a comeback anytime soon and that the East is still reliant on a buoyant western consumer. The "solution" to the threats facing the european banking system may only be able to seek to address those threats and little else.

The western banking system still seeks to drain the lifeblood out of the real economy whilst politicians act as its spokesperson by distorting and misrepresenting the truth. Witness the confusion of the UK politicians as they propogate the myth that the recent £75 billion "credit easing" by the MPC will feed its way into and be a boost to the UK economy. Any doubts about that view seem to have been confirmed as Sterling declined on the announcement of the "credit easing" and food prices staged a noticeable sharp increase within days. Even the Governor of the Bank of England struggled to disassociate one event from the other. As the US has shown, the most effective way of spinning a lie is to couch it in fear of the alternative.

But hey, who is complaining. "Risk on" is back in vogue whilst the paradox of demand destruction is forgotten...at least for now. Time for a sustained and breathtaking year end rally in equity markets as the flight to safety reverses course ?

Hmm.

Bid or no bid, these on the back of the DOW last night and if any confidence returns generally are heading beyond a fiver again IMO. Look at sell down since summer and has CKSN issued profit warning? no. Markets may be tougher, but a 30%++ fall? Overdone as with others, except the beta on this is a big one so swings more than the market.
