LONDON (ShareCast) - Following yesterday's trading update from contract caterer Compass Group (Other OTC: CMPGF.PK - news) , Nomura has reiterated its buy rating and 800p target price for the stock, saying that it remains its preference in the European leisure sector. "CPG remains one of our top sector picks because of structural growth in the catering and support services segments, free cash flow strength and medium-term potential for margin upside," the broker said. Margins were flat in the first half, but organic revenues increased by around 5%. "We are not concerned by the apparent absence of margin improvement as this reflects one-off factors; more importantly with management emphasising the potential for efficiency savings in Europe .

I thought it was in Support Services, which admittedly is a catch-all, and not in Food.

However I see that ADVFN has it in Travel & Leisure, which must be a mis-classification. Contract catering fits in neither.

The sector has been de-rated recently, CPI, Serco etc.
Being in Food gives CPG a more defensive profile,
it would be my sector pick.

Yes, but CPG fell -2.9%, compared with -1.3% for the FTSE100.

Thanks again for the input EI, I am a novice investor been going for just 9 months,to be frank its been a bit of a nightmare, I think I can be called 'a jittery investor' at the moment, feel that I am sailing against the wind in a leaking boat..confidence in anything, is at a worrying low.

Was not saying CPG is a sell, I think it's a great company
and looks a sound longer term investment imv.
It is also a global business, however it's biggest market is the US.
Nice yeild as well at the price you paid, short term share price who knows.

Surprised by the sell off this morning after the initial rise. I thought it was a positive update. Did I miss something? Looks like I'll be holding until 18/5!
