RCTurner strange you hit the nail on the head with new clients but then fail to mention the 500,000 new clients in the bag coming over from Oz?

I'm surprised that so many are pinning the share price performance here straight to volatility. CMCX was very strongly boosted by a whole load of new clients who had nothing to do in lockdown but start playing the markets. We are no longer in that world and there is no evidence that an increase in volatility leads to additional business for CMCX, in any meaningful sense.

Surprised the volatility hasn't had a more positive effect on the share price.

Omicron variant could be a 'Christmas gift', says German health expertThe Omicron variant could be a "Christmas gift" and may make the pandemic end sooner, a German clinical epidemiologist has said. Professor Karl Lauterbach, who is running to be Germany's next health minister, said the new variant could be positive if it causes milder illness. He suggested that Omicron has so many mutations - 32 on the spike protein alone, which is twice as many as Delta - meaning it could be optimised to infect and be less severe, in line with how most respiratory viruses evolve. https://apple.news/A42H-aDIqT668v7SLc46mUw

No problem Doobz.

CMCX will inevitably have its time again. It's just about timing really. Hard to call bottoms, but I'm still wary with this one so just watching for now.

Initial market reaction today is more of the same as previous moves. We could still see some further selling, but that follow through to the downside hasn't happened. I'm sure we have all seen big down moves, it's that follow through with futures off big after the first big down day, then closing at lows with any intraday spikes sold and it escalates from there with mentality on buy the dips changing.

Even when I posted on the Sunday, the futures were farting about around -50 to -100 on the DOW. Alot of the weakness bought up overnight in a flash so initial market reaction is one of less concern than the headlines are suggesting.

News from the ground in SA is of mild illness as per posts above and news today. They have just had the doctor who discovered the variant on and she said they are not seeing any concerning signs at the moment.

When the BBC have the main headline as "Two people have the new variant"

Then updates it later to "Three people have the new variant"

I don't know what other's think. Isn't that abit much?

But there must be a reason why so many countries are putting through quick action's so maybe there is more to it.

Market isn't suggesting that but we shall see.

Onwards!

All imo

Sphere - an interesting read thanks. It really comes down to two factors with this new variant, firstly is it actually even a threat to health. There seem to be initial reports that it spreads more easily but is causing much milder symptoms, this is what we'd expect to see with a virus mutation over time. One news release of "Actually don't panic" would stabilise everything. The second issue is how the world leaders respond to the issue, by this I mean how heavily they over react. If they go down the route of over reaction (Just to be safe) and make the stupid decision to do any lockdowns in the UK then it will be Heavy red days for sure. On the CMCX note, They look massively over done now, you can only imagine trading activity is up again and will be strong over xmas and new year. Again just one hint of this in a news release should look very promising. I've taken a position here today after getting my timing wrong a couple of times but happy to hold through the short (Probably) volatile spell

The first South African doctor to alert the authorities about patients with the omicron variant has told The Telegraph that the symptoms of the new variant are unusual but mild.

Only just blue. It is certainly one of those days when a philosophical attitude is needed and to remember that markets shouldn't determine our mental state....

This looks like an undervalued stock. If they go ahead with splitting the CFD/Spread Betting business from the stockbroking side (sounds likely), I think there will be a nice market correction.

Also, their plans to launch stockbroking services in the UK sounds promising with ISAs, SIPPs to be included as well as crypto availability. Think this is an area ripe for disruption with CMC well equipped to take market share.

In response to the comments re IG above, I cannot see IG having the same level of growth opportunity - but am always happy to be persuaded otherwise!

You can get a trial account easy enough Farrugia. I think the platform really good and found it hard to move to anything else so I expect it may work the same way that what you know is the best. The customer service I have found lets them down but perhaps that was last year when they were really busy as I haven't traded with them since. I hold the shares, added some more in the last few days as I like the platform so much. The yield on its own justifies the current price in my view and then there is the benefit of the traditional stock broking aspect which should provide the growth and I don't think is allowed for in the current price - but we will see.

how does the CMC platform compare with IG? IG have a great platform with most stocks listed including small caps. They also have a watchlist feature which is great - i have over 300 stocks in my watchlist which I can monitor easily. How does CMC compare?
