                       CITY OF LONDON CEO SELLS 29.5P.C. STAKE
                       TO INVESTOR GROUP AT 65p PER SHARE

Trusts associated with City of London Group's managing director, John
Greenhalgh, have sold shares representing just over 29.5p.c. of the Group, to a
number of private investors.   The shareholding was sold at 65p per share on
June 17 to clients of Lothbury Corporation.


Two of the nine private investors have shareholdings of over 3p.c.     They are:
Rock Bay SA 1,037,822 shares (12.09p.c.), and Mr. David Instance, 373,134
shares (4.3p.c.).


The sale is the first made by Mr. Greenhalgh since the original Stock Exchange
listing of the business in 1988.


He said today: "The sale coincides with another birthday, allows bills to be
settled, my personal pension scheme to be repleted, and should give some further
liquidity in the shares.  The decision was taken well before discussions started
on the disposal of our archiving software company and these talks are continuing
to advance. The interests of all other shareholders have been paramount in my
mind in honouring this transaction.   I will remain with a 24p.c. stake in the
company and intend to hold on to my remaining shares - tightly".
