23/3/2005 14:57 | I make no pretence at bravery R, when 7ft tall West Indians are running in from behind the sight screen. :-) | abix47
23/3/2005 14:55 | Doc We're having a pre-season intra-squad game arranged by pairing batters together for a fixed number of overs per pair as some junior associations do. (minus 15 or something for loss of wicket) It works very well. We do it to ensure all our batters get a good knock on grass after a winter on artificial. damanko That's one hell of a fixture list! My second (bigger club) actually plays against the Northern Nomads, I think every other year midweek. I usually open for them but due to their strength, ringers were brought in and I was demoted to 11. (Actually I saw their overseas opener warming up and demoted myself) lol! | abix47
23/3/2005 13:45 | No - but we can play that at the w/e - part of the problem is that for the midweek games your better players tend to both bat and bowl then you have 4or 5 who just end up fielding which isn't going to encourage them to turn up the next week (particularly the 14-18s who will otherwise play football). We have had several local teams fold over the last few years - it is a dying game and unless you can get more people involved its going to stay that way. One of the major advantages of football is that the whole team are all involved through the game - cricket can be just a few. | dr biotech
23/3/2005 13:38 | Dr Biotech With respect , that is hardly "proper" cricket ,is it ? | roberto george
23/3/2005 12:48 | abix, fancy playing for the nomads? Check our website, www.nomadscc.com So far this year we've played in Kenya, Uganda & Spain. 40 odd fixtures around the south of England coming up. France (2 games at a chateau near Paris) in August, Spain at the end of October (4 games). Then try and plan another proper overseas tour. We fancy Sri Lanka ....... are you game? | damanko
23/3/2005 12:21 | how many games did it take to get that? We're struggling for fixtures this year, it seems that more teams are going to the wall or struggling for players - I think 20/20 is the future as people are more willing to give up an evening rather than a whole day... | dr biotech
19/4/2004 12:45 | How can I argue with my mum? lol! | abix47
17/4/2004 22:42 | Abix Please edit the above post. You know your old Mum likes a game of rounders. Abix47s Mum | abix47s mum
16/4/2004 18:50 | Very satisfying win. Ganguly really does bring the best out from the team. Superb captain. One of the best in world cricket today. | the vampire

04/4/2004 18:26 | Because we split the first and second team into two and have the first team batters up against the first team bowlers and vica versa. Rounders is for tarts. | abix47
04/4/2004 13:33 | How can a cricket match be a practise game? Do you bring on subs if one of the batters isn't getting enough runs? Or is it a meanlingless game that no one really tries to win? Seems a bit of a contradiction to me. Posh rounders really. But with only two sets of sticks to run between instead of four to run round. | peter perfect
31/3/2004 08:32 | The one that was on when I posted. Derrrr. I rolled the 'square' on Sunday and I might nip up and give it another this affo. There is a nice thick covering of grass amd it looks like returning to the Surrey loam has done the trick. First practise game on the 10th. I'm all of a quiver! | abix47
31/3/2004 07:55 | Indeed. Which match? | peter perfect
22/3/2004 17:39 | It could be a tricky finish to this match? | abix47
16/3/2004 20:43 | in my opinion these matches have been fixed, i may be wrong, but from a political view, i wouldnt be suprised to see either first 2 matches or even next 4 matches going even. last match being going in to desider. Tendulker batted well but did not in the first. It was dravid and sehwag, What lets us down is our poor bowling. No intelligence or line and length, hence the number of runs taken of them | th3 equ4lis3r |
