22/4/2015 13:13 | an article from January: (Bloomberg) -- American cities are starting an architectural arms race to the sky with super-sized Ferris wheels, a 100-story observation tower and maybe even a mammoth golf ball atop a 300-foot tee planted in the Arizona desert. From Phoenix to Camden, New Jersey, city officials and developers are seeking to punctuate their skylines with exclamation points, vying for the world’s attention with the next Eiffel Tower or London Eye. | andrbea

22/4/2015 10:29 | At the end of the CEO interview I like when he says that, after a few years, if all goes well, he looks forward to paying CHAL shareholders a dividend (and a good one at that). It all comes down to supplying the finance, over several years, to engineering partner Starneth: 'Regardless of which project beats Vegas first, others are already queuing up to build higher, Armstrong said. His company alone has 36 potential projects in the pipeline, about one-third for massive “iconic” sizes. And how often do clients ask to build a record-setter?' | andrbea
22/4/2015 09:57 | April 16 2015 New York Wheel is being built by Starneth BV, the Dutch firm responsible for the London Eye, and is part of a larger $1 billion redevelopment of St. George, Staten Island. Over $7 million will be spent in LED lighting and the Ferris wheel will feature 36 capsules, each with a capacity of up to 40 people. A full ride will take 38 minutes to complete. The developers hope to attract over 4 million visitors per year, and they state that approximately 350 construction jobs and 600 permanent jobs in ticket sales, maintenance and other positions will be created as a result of the project. | andrbea
22/4/2015 09:54 | Apr 13 (the gold rush) Regardless of which project beats Vegas first, others are already queuing up to build higher, Armstrong said. His company alone has 36 potential projects in the pipeline, about one-third for massive “iconic” sizes. And how often do clients ask to build a record-setter? “All. The. Time,” Armstrong said. “They always want to be bigger, bigger, bigger.” Indeed, New York and Dubai are part of a gold rush of giant observation wheels that have sprung up in the wake of the surprising financial success of the 15-year-old London Eye, which was originally built as a temporary novelty. | andrbea

18/4/2015 07:32 | By Nigel Roberts April 17 2015, 10:31am Challenger Acquisitions (LON:CHAL) Chairman, Mark Gustafson, has spent much of his working life raising finance for oil and gas projects. Now as he tells Proactiveinvestors, he is shifting his attention to the 'attractions' sector. His recently launched investment vehicle has just signed a co-operation deal with Starneth, the company behind the hugely successful London Eye ferris wheel. The company is also developing new giant observation wheels in Dubai and New York. The agreement gives Challenger extra reach into a sector which Gustafson describes a “hugely popular”. His ultimate game plan is to become a majority stake in big wheels throughout the world. “It’s also way more recession-proof than investing resources,” he claims. | h2owater
