28/8/2011 20:57 | I will be buying more of these soon as I think it could join the 8% club in the coming weeks/months. Will be topping up a few more RSA also as it is soooooo very close to joining the exclusive club too. GLA. | woolyback2
09/8/2011 16:59 | tnav £3.34 per share per interims 30/06/2011 dramatic fall from ye 31/12/2010...£4.20+ per share i certainly would not pay any more than tnav in current market with hurricane seasons approaching ... each to their own fx | fxdealer3
09/8/2011 14:32 | Anyone of us can be knocked over by a bus but, unlike an insurer, can't charge ever higher fees for landing up in hospital. Looks (tempting fate here) as if NY will open higher. | iomhere
04/8/2011 08:38 | fxdealer3 perhaps overlooks the catastrophe aggregate programme CGL has in place to considerably reduce potential losses. | iomhere
04/8/2011 07:56 | Despite the catastrophic losses these half year results show the merits of Catlin's organisation particularly the international hubs. | ddahj
13/7/2011 08:32 | iom , wait to hurricance season over before trying to value a appropriate valuation of tangible nav at year end . too high and too risky at £4 levels | fxdealer3
13/7/2011 08:18 | fx3 You're not holding any at the minute then? | iomhere
12/7/2011 08:49 | $400m profit for 2011 wiped out on losses ...looks like breakeven at this stage for year barring further losses in h2 ... My estimate of $750m japan loss gross is probably right except for large reinsuance cover which i underestimated so net affect is $400m . | fxdealer3
05/7/2011 11:31 | nofool I'll go along with that. You are certainly no fool. | iomhere
23/6/2011 16:20 | Wise move hosede. Been mostly in cash for a while now so not feeling the pain of the crash. Nice just to sit back and watch the chaos all around and enjoy the short positions. GL. | sawadee3
23/6/2011 14:47 | did the same. Great stock, but markets could go downhill quite fast if Greece keels over (which looks odds-on to me) - and I suspect CGL will get carried down along with everything else | hosede
23/6/2011 11:17 | Sold a few to buy back cheaper. | sawadee3
22/6/2011 18:34 | Looking a bit toppy. | hosede
03/6/2011 11:55 | These shares are cheaper to buy and sell since there is no stamp tax. Just sold some and hoping to buy back in the hurricane season. | ddahj

21/4/2011 15:00 | Fxdealer Fortunately it looks as if your $750m estimate of CGL's Japanese loss was on the pessimistic side | hosede
09/4/2011 15:20 | AMLIN WEATHERS £275M DISASTERS AND CAN RIDE OUT THE HURRICANE Amlin's total Q1 hit from natural disasters could be as much as £275million Wednesday April 6,2011 By Daily Express reporter Have your say(0) AMLIN, the biggest Lloyd's of London insurer, yesterday warned losses from the Japanese earthquake and tsunami could reach £150million. The claims could take the firm's total hit from natural disasters to as much as £275million for the first quarter alone. Amlin also expects to pay out £110million on the New Zealand quake and £15million on the floods in Australia earlier this year. The firm put a provisional estimate of between £80million to £150million on the Japanese quake losses, based on a total industry loss estimated at between $12billion and $25billion (£15.4billion). However, the figure was lower than analysts expected and they believe Amlin is still strong enough to withstand even a severe hurricane season later this year. The shares rose 3p to 389¾p. Amlin also hopes it can increase rates to customers when policies come up for renewal later this year. Read more: | fxdealer3
08/4/2011 09:41 | Hi, just been reading some of your interesting postings re the effect of the Japanese disaster on CTL. Surely in this day and age of high speed communications, info transfer, financial modelling etc etc., some or most of the anticipated costs will be in the price already? After all, the markets are supposed to be forward, not backward, looking. regds Richard | richardbroughton
