Agriculture, food and engineering group Carr's Milling Industries is raising its full-year forecasts after a strong first half.

Pre-tax profits rose by 31% to £7.4m in the 26 weeks to 3 March.

Revenues were up 12% at £196.0m and fully diluted earnings per share rose by 29% to 52.2p,

First interim dividend of 7.25p is up from 6.5p in 2011.

Chief executive Chris Holmes said: "The board is pleased with the first half performance, which was ahead of our forecast.

"The trading environment, particularly in agriculture, is mixed due to the milder weather conditions experienced and this trend has continued into the second half.

"However, demand for our products, particularly animal feed blocks, remains strong.

"Following the profit growth achieved in the first half the board believes the results for the year will be ahead of the expectations that the company had at the beginning of the year, and is well positioned for sustained profitable growth."

Hate to disagree.

Spread very wide at present might deter a few. Should be up 5% plus by end of the day imo.

Having watched CRM for some time I have finally dipped a toe into the water and bought some.
Attracted by the PE ratio and the dividend cover.
Hated the bid offer spread but bit the bullet at last.

Here's hoping for a good update next week.
Can the EPS beat last results 265?

Not much action here but I reckon today's results look pretty good so I'm now in.

Outlook looks positive and the company investing quite heavily which gives confidence for the future.

Good news this morning. Carr's is now traded on SetsMM, so is no longer a market maker only share.

More visibility on the order book and able to get on the right side of the bid/offer spread.

Does tend to lead to a bit more volatility too.

Investec analysts raised their price target on Carr's shares to 740p from 700p, with a "buy" rating, saying the company had "reported a very strong first half result, driven by agricultural activities".

WH Ireland analyst Anne Margaret Crow lifted her price target for the shares to 900p from 850p.

Hoping for a repeat of 2008 when much higher interims were followed by 3 trading updates upgrading profit guidance.

On a two year view todays price (631p) is bang on the trend line, but on a one year view it is well below the lower confidence line indicating oversold. I use the default Sharecope confidence settings (2 x standard deviations) which on a long term chart (5 or more years) are usually very good indicators, one and two years are a little less reliable, but with a prospective yield of 3.88% seems worth further study DYOR

£8 any one.

Sorry just an eternal optimist and the comment above has no substantive basis, other than I want the price to be higher.

I could do some research on PE ratios and forecast EPS etc etc. but I will leave this upto the City boys.

PS I bought at £7.00 about 2-3 years ago!

Great statement from CRM this morning:-

The strong trading performance for the first quarter of the current year, indicated in the annual results announcement on 8 November 2010, has continued and is ahead of management expectations. The growth in sales and profit achieved during the period also reflects the successful integration of the acquisitions made during 2010. The markets in which the Group operates remain stable and the Board remains confident in prospects for the full year.
