Posted at 17/11/2023 20:22 by darrin1471 Youngs looks a better run company and should be able to extract profits from the CPC estate judging by past performance. Will Youngs sell, keep or buy the 53% Mosaic Pubs stake. A single head office should significantly reduce overheads. There may be some weakness in YNGA as value investors sell stakes acquired in takeover of CPC. Its worth looking at Youngs YNGN non voting shares for value. |
Posted at 18/4/2023 13:06 by smithie6 darrin1471 write"So despite owning £150m of pub property on which they pay no rent, they are not producing cash." one has to be careful when analysing pub/hotel shares since if one looks just at the declared profit numbers & ignores the cashflow numbers then one can easily get a false impression of the financial perf. as Darrin1471 points out....it is vital to always look at the cashflow numbers for any company. (for pub/hotel shares there are often big annual costs for refurbishment which are in reality a cost of doing business (although normally excluded from the PAT numbers) & investors should really "include" in their own profit calcs, imho) |

Posted at 21/9/2022 14:03 by disc0dave45 darrinI think the eps of 0.07p is the statutory number. Not too certain though but their headline was that adjusted pbt was £1.3m (zero tax), which gives an eps 1.2p.For 2017 & 2018 H2 was +55% to H1, in 2019 it was +2.2x. Taking the 2019 data that's a possible 3.8p eps for the year best case. So on PE of 15x which seems a tad high to me but looks like they could at a stretch beat consensus of 3.46p (Chronic Investor!) providing H2 is on a par with 2019 (have also seen a consensus of 4.4p eps though). Guess a potential beat explains the price action combined with the buyback news - strange decision and IMO I would say it's more likely that they won't achieve consensus forecasts. |

Posted at 15/6/2020 17:21 by alan@bj Investors Chronicle view:-Given the current backdrop it is a relief that City Pub Group is not still pursuing its previously rapid expansion rate, while the largely freehold nature of its estate will limit its exposure to the landlord pressure suffered by peers. A relaxation of the government’s planned two-metre social distancing plan would multiply the group’s capacity and could spark life into the shares, and we think there remains room for upside during this recovery.
