Green Folly: Berlin city's e-buses ground to halt due cold weather

Germany's capital Berlin was forced to replace some of its electric buses with diesel buses due to range problems associated with the cold weather.

Berlin. Germany’s fleet of e-buses had a hard time coping with the recent cold weather as dozens had to be replaced by diesel powered buses.
The cold weather worldwide is exposing the weakness of green energies and transportation systems based on them. For example Texas has seen millions of people impacted by rolling blackouts due to solar panels being covered by snow and wind turbines being frozen still.

The extremely cold weather has also led to transport disruptions all over Germany. One example is Berlin, Germany's fleet of electric city buses.

23 e-buses had to be taken out of service

The Berliner Morgenpost reported some of the green electric buses operated by the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG) had been taken out service due to range problems in the extremely cold weather. Up to 23 electric buses had to be replaced by diesel-powered buses last Monday. Ultimately the German capital plans to convert its entire fleet to electric by 2030.

Hat-tip. Die Welt

According to internal memos provided to the Berliner Morgenpost daily, the very cold temperatures were too much for the electric buses' batteries because so much power was needed for heating. A portion of the electric buses were substituted by diesel buses overnight because they no longer had enough power to complete their planned routes.

BVG spokeswoman Petra Nelken confirmed that the twelve-meter-long Solaris e-bus was not able to cope well with the cold. "According to the procurement contract and the specifications, they are supposed to be able to drive 130 kilometers even at minus 10 degrees Celsius, but not all of them made it," she said.

The inadequate e-buses were replaced by diesel powered buses, which can reliably travel hundreds of kilometers before needing to be refueled.

Altogether 23 buses of the 123 electric bus fleet were taken out of service, thus creating delays and forcing passengers to wait out in the cold at bus stops.

When asked by WELT, Nelken also emphasized that the buses were often not completely out of service, but only had to return to the depot (and to the charging) earlier than usual.

Rare Earth - 30% JV in YangjibanaToday 11:14
I'm not a mining expert - but I will give this go to ascertain the size of reserves at Yangjibana.

First - Hastings Tech - listed on Asx - total MV circa £164 mn. They have been drilling Yanjibana since 2014.

Now
Per hxxps://www.cadenceminerals.com/projects/yangibana-rare-earth-project-2/
The total reserves at Yanjibana which are under the JV arrangement with Cadence's interest is stated here.
The probable ore reserves of rare earth are 2,074,000 tonnes.
BUT
Per latest Accounts of Hastings - hxxps://www.investi.com.au/api/announcements/has/ba142d5c.pdf
The reserves stated on Cadence's website HAVE BEEN SUPERCEDED with new estimates which are circa 13% MORE (assuming the 13% is spread evenly across all reserves)*.
So Probable Ore Reserves within tenements held 30% by Cadence are : 2,074,000 x 13% = 2,343,620 tonnes
With 0.43% ND2O3+PR6O11.
Now in terms of monetary valuation - can someone know?

* Per Hastings accounts - @In November 2019, an updated JORC Mineral Resource estimation was completed by independent consultant David Princep from Gill Lane Consulting, incorporating all known drilling results from Bald Hill, Fraser’s, Auer and Auer North, Yangibana and Yangibana North deposits. A complete geological re-interpretation was completed which defined thicker and more coherent zones of mineralisation based on Total Rare Earths Oxide (TREO) as opposed to the previous interpretation which used only Neodymium and Praseodymium (Nd2O3+Pr6O11).
The mineral resource update resulted in 13% more, or 1.7 million tonnes (Mt) increase, in Measured and Indicated tonnes
to 15.40Mt @ 1.12% TREO."

I’m with blue sky, invested here a while back then it dawned on me this was no better than any individual stock picker buying into early expl.s and watching as dilution erodes any value. But...Amapa does look rather interesting, and maybe just like a punter with a portfolio of chancers they’ve found a winner amongst all the outsiders. I’ve dipped my toe in at the low teens and willing to see where this goes...dyor etc

Onsideman that is a perfect example of a stale bull and the perfect opportunity for a newbie. Are you really sure that things haven't changed? I am not. I used to hear these arguments on BOOM, true, a lot of pain for some,5+ years worth, but it's not no pain no gain, just the dream starts to become reality. For me this week was a significant step, but of course more steps needed - going in the right direction though.Look forward not backwards!! GLA.

That's kind of my point.
We're 15 (FIFTEEN) years down the line here and nothing changes. Goalposts move, new directions, new dreams, new aspirations and new investors (gamblers) buy in (both figuratively and literally). Rinse and repeat.

Please enlighten us other shareholders as to how Kdnc will keep the lights on, without either selling off some EMH liquidity, or arrange another placing, in the absence of an operating business currently. This is the norm for pre-operating AIM businesses. It's called "investing for emerging growth".

So you mean the post-consolidation high of 38p (40p) and not the ACTUAL previous high? Thanks for clarifying. It's all I asked

As to whether or not it'll get there? Who knows? Although I wouldn't include the ever depreciating percentage of stock in EMH in any long term calculations since - in the absence of any appetite for yet another placing - it's currently being sold off to keep the lights on (and to keep Kiran & Co in clothes)

Enjoy your day yourself

When you research the value of EMH and Amapa, and the MACP now 40p will be hit with ease.
why is 40p too a high of a valuantion on KDNC ?
a breakdown will be appreciated.
ill help to start it for my dear friend
EMH is worth 15 mill MACP to KDNC
Amapa is worth /? 20% of over 600mill
for a MACP of? which we have now.
a detailed response would be appreciated
maybe worth looking at TA while you are at it
enjoy your day

eye2 - which high do you mean? The spike to 38p when the market misconstrued the potential impact of a particular RNS, or the (consolidation adjusted) high of £1,20 from the heady days of REM?

I'd venture neither are likely, sadly, but would absolutely love to be proved wrong. I'd also love to read a considered response to urchin's question

NoiruaThanks for the podcast. Very, very interesting. The NPV of the Amapa project would far exceed €600 million and under current iron ore valuations probably exceed €1 billion. This translates with Cadence Minerals 27% stake to at least €250 million alone, and that's without the other investments. I've only been in the last 6 months, but what incredible potential.

Cadence Minerals is pleased to note that Bacanora Lithium has commenced initial site activities at the Sonora Lithium Project, located in Mexico.
This milestone follows the Company's successful US$65 million fundraise last week, which, in combination with existing cash and the undrawn portions of its debt financing facility, will finance Bacanora's 50% share of the capital cost required for Stage 1 of the Project.
The Company's latest presentation is also available for download here:
