BskyB paid less than last time for their games but BT paid a bit more? They must have wanted those slots much more than the others I assume?:-

in fairness Toon, Monty is right. no cpi change until RPI is no longer produced. i assume hence the Whitepaper, which questions why BT bothered in the first place?

As well as being the self proclaimed No.1 Trader, Monty now seems to be the No.1 Legal Guru. Anyway here is a link to a summary of the High Court ruling hxxps://www.clydeco.com/blog/the-hive/article/pension-increases-high-court-rules-that-bt-pensions-scheme-cannot-switch-to

The Gov also use the RPI measure. Mark Carney criticised them stating RPI was a discredited measure. Court of Appeal update from BT website - "BT has now been granted permission to appeal the High Court judgment and the case will be considered by the Court of Appeal. Timing of the hearing is not yet known but it is likely to be within the next year." The pain is going to continue for sometime yet.....

No chance.

When the Govt itself now uses CPI for inflation and pension measurement, then I think the Court of appeal could very easily overturn this decision.

In my view I don't think so, but thats what makes a market bulls and bears. My target is 185p.

Basically I am not defending Bt . There are obviously issues but the question I am asking myself is . Has the bad news been priced in already :)

Nothing new in that article, timed nicely to coincide with the auction news. Are we going to end up in the 'red' today......?

They have got decades to sort out the pension deficit . Bt is at a 5 year low . It's moved on from where it was 5 years ago . It's making good profits etc and they have said divs will be maintained . I think it's a great entry point

Pension is a massive problem, the appeal is a waste of money in my view, no judge will go against the BT pensioners.
Is this move higher today, going to be a dead cat bounce.

You could be right. Having failed in the cpi case they’ll probably try and screw the other ongoing pension changes even more...lol

bt has a track record of finding solutions . Even if the appeal fails doesn't necessarily mean a sharp and continuing fall in the share price . If any thing as yesterday's news shows , it removes the uncertainty which is good for the share price . Don't know about others but I would be worrying if I was shorted.

At the moment legislation dictates the ONS has to continue producing the 'legacy' RPI index as it is used by companies in contracts etc....
Unless this changes Bt Has no chance no the courts have ruled on it as contractual for pension C members imho
Never thought they would fail though

No chance what so ever the pension appeal will be successful, is my view.
