10% increase in 2017 & 2018 dividend was announced last year and I cannot see the Board damaging their reputation by breaking that 'promise'.The results should confirm majority of the business doing well and take away uncertainty about deeper Italianesq issues as if there was anything else they would have announced that quickly rather than drip feed it.The mobile business is likely to be ahead of expectations which will boost confidence.A higher range recognising intrinsic value and upside should be established after the results.Good luck all.

But Monty you were targeting 295. Never got any where near that. Some may say it was convenient that you revealed a short position after a drop. Others may say you are simply making it up as you go on.

I'm looking for 10% increase in dividend with finals in a couple of weeks time. I would have thought if figures decent new trading range 335p - 345p. BT have fallen around 30% in the last 12 months. I prefer BT over Vod, just can't see them increasing their dividend. Any thoughts boys, sensible ones.

Happy to be corrected here Sam my intention is not to deceive, merely to question!

"The Auction Period

When using the action mechanism, there are 8 possible pathways that can be used to determine the closing price. Admittedly, this is not easy to explain, nor is it important knowledge, but is is not widely covered, especially in understandable terms.

In brief, for SETSqx there are two board-stroke scenarios that encompass the 8 pathways. These are
1. With registered market makers, and, 2. Without registered market makers

1. If trades are submitted during the closing auction, the price will result from calculations to do with these. If no trades are submitted the closing price will be based on the mid of the best market maker bid offer price at the end of the closing auction.

2. If trades are submitted during the closing auction, the price will result from calculations to do with these. If no trades are submitted then the closing price will be determined by the stock's last automated trade

An auction consists of two phases; the Call Phase and the Price Determination Phase. During the call phase, orders can be entered, changed or cancelled, but no trades are completed. Essentially during the Call Phase, there is a call for orders. A preliminary indicative price is also found. The subsequent phase is the Price Determination phase. During this stage, no orders can be changed, entered or cancelled. An order-matching algorithm is run which seeks to find a price at which the executable volume is maximised. In other words, the price reached is the price at which the highest volume takes place. Other conditions are also sought after in the final price. A 'minimum surplus' and accurate 'market pressure' are two of these. The final auction price is displayed as an 'Uncrossing Trade' - UT. [1]

Openreach - Some people are trying to ramp this company's price in advance of the results. And good luck to them. But let it be clear Openreach whilst temporarily still within the BT Group be aware that the agreement gives them scope to make agreement with others including Private Equity to go towards becoming the UK National Grid of Telecom. Effectively leaving BT up the creek with the likes of Talk Talk simply narrow consumer businesses. So really despite what may be in the upcoming results that may in fact be a red herring - are BT in reality worth any more than the 190p - the current price of Talk Talk who maybe have more upside because they are a cheaper consumer option that gives you basically much the same if that all what most people need! There have been some buys recently that hiked the price and we have come back nearer somewhat to reality if 69p is certainly not as we got to in the financial crisis but with its Pension Deficit that the privatisation left BT with always remember the company and the equity ain't the same thing !!!!

Before you call others "chimp-boy" you need to be aware that the details that you posted were from the 12.00 auction and not the closing auction where the six million odd were traded.

How the auction works:
The process will be like that used in London Stock Exchange’s opening and closing auctions. At the commencement of the auction call at 12:00, all orders that have been submitted for that specific auction will be injected immediately. Orders may then be entered, modified and deleted during an auction call, but no automated execution occurs.

Throughout the entire period London Stock Exchange will only disseminate the most up to date indicative auction uncrossing price & size and not the full orderbook. This will be updated whenever orders are added, deleted or modified. At the end of the auction period, the balance of buy and sell orders will be used to calculate the uncrossing price and continuous trading will recommence.

By allowing large orders to be placed without their size being shown to the whole market, the auction enables institutional investors to input larger blocks of shares without revealing their position. In addition, the auction allows private investors to trade alongside professional fund managers at a fair market price.
