Will BT have a rights issue?
if they need £2-4bn to fund future investment they should get on with it.

Net debt is well below £36bn as stated above.
about half that figure.
pension deficit is manageable spread over decades, not huge.

Profit figure will be similar to before.
Profit figure includes interest payments.
no problem.

Selling at 179p will turn out to be a mistake.
(although very smart if you buy back at todays price)

market cap 16 billion , net debt 34 billion
plus a huge pension deficit
hardly a surprise the share price has tanked
thats why i sold out at 1.79 as per earlier post

The word 'bearish' means nothing unless there is a detailed explanation of the reasons why they are bearish.

Are they technical types who look at the shape of the curve and apply their voodoo methods to predicting the future price from the past shape of the curve?
This method assumes that the curve is all knowing and is telling us something.

It makes sense if all quant funds and HFT algorithms are programmed to trade on these assumptions. A 26 year old Ph.D statistic expert needs to know nothing about business or BT to do this.

Maybe they could plot my golf scores and predict the probability my golf score next time out.

But BT and its future depends upon other risk factors such as the investment in fast broadband and the return it will be allowed in its investment.

How much subsidy will BT get for connecting small hill villages with fast broadband at a cost of millions with little hope of a return?

No analyst technical or otherwise knows the answer to these questions. They are just guessing. The one who predicts 250p is being optimistic, DB are guessing thing will be much worse.

Just topped up at 160p. I think going forward we may see it go lower with it being in a downtrend unless its one of those rare occasions where I caught the bottom.

So why have I topped up?.

1, Income play at present which may soon be cut (I know), but even it's halved it will still be close to 5%.

2, Once all the new fibre optic cables are in and the spending settles down it could well become a growth company.

3, Directors have been buying.

4, EPS is still rising, as is debt but I'm happy with the gearing

5, It's peers average a p/e of 11. so 6/7 is cheap.

6, Nationalisation out the question now the election is out of the way

Long term buy aimho but as always DYOR and stay lucky. MB

If you click on the six month chart you will get a chart window pop up and you can set the 5 yr timescale from the menu, then hit the draw button and you'll get what you want. Of course you may just want to see it at a glance without going through all that, but just in case you didn't know...

NB: Looking at the long-term chart, the recent decline has been what I'd call precipitous. That rapid sort of decline is usually followed by a bounce of some sort as a reaction. If we're lucky, this latest dip may form a double-bottom in the chart with a recovery in the next month or two. But hey, it's BT...
