LBC Boris Johnson won't rule out a windfall tax on energy companies. A government with no money. They will get it where it can.

{Executive pay packets in the sector are likely to rise even higher this year with bonuses often linked to shares prices, which have rocketed during the pandemic}.

we on the same planet or what? share price crashed 64% in the pandemic, share price still down from 10 years ago, never seen so much BS in my lifetime.

house prices are up 700% in 30 years thos, all MP got 3-20 of em.

"The only people who can't budget are Tory Ministers, who are helping energy shareholders get rich instead of helping everyone else with a windfall tax." from a liebor MP.

dividend cut 50%
and my shares still down from 9 years ago.. what planet are these people on?

The BP website gives chapter and verse on shares in issue and the progress of the buybacks, current and historic, it is completely transparent. The only niggle is the diluting effect of share awards but those are now explicitly bought back in parallel to the main buyback programme. Plus the odd corporate transaction interfering.

Look here ...

planit2, do you know how many shares have been bought back since Apr 2021. Thing is BP don't inform the number of shares in issue prior to the buy back starting.

Buybacks aren't useless, EPS are 4.5% higher compared to what they would have been if the buybacks hadn't happened over the last year (more if you include the employee share options which would have diluted further).

Looney said in 2020 that the current policy of lower dividends and share buybacks would continue to 2025. Perhaps they will increase dividends then.

I can’t understand why the institutional investors are not perusing this item at the AGM.
I
All I can think is there is a strategy at play, and when they finally do align the dividend to pre-COVID levels (if), they will essentially be paying out far, far less.

Remember though, Shell did cut more than BP, it’s Exxon you want to compare with…..out of the three I had a choice to invest in, I seen Exxon as the looser….what a mistake that was.

If I’d invested in Exxon during the COVID lows, I’d be retried now haha…they refused to cut and there share price is at record highs….insane
